Nice looking guitars, but the 1 5/8 nut killed it for me. Well that and the ridiculous price they were originally asking for them.

I don't know. They're nice guitars. One of the things that keeps me liking stuff that Eddie endorses is that the stuff is made for a real player. Look at a 5150 (or II) head..they blaze and they were (are) a bargain! All the EVH guitars straight thru from the Ernie Ball's have been relatively well done.
The EVH Charvels have a blazin' pick up, nice neck with a moderate cut, narrow frets, Floyd w/ D-tunage, fine EVH paint job. It plays well, sounds fantastic and has a good feel.
Granted $2650 is pricey, but WTF isn't overpriced at MAP?
As for being collectable. I look at it like this: If the going price on any "collectable" guitar goes up high enough, the company that made it in the first place will just RI more. Effectively reducing the price of ANYTHING collectable. So take 'em all on their "right here, right now" merrits
BTW, I would've liked a wider nut, too. It's (they're) the only 1 5/8 nut width guitars I own, so.......

I built my own the way I wanted it ...
* One piece mahogany body
* Seymour Duncan "Custom Custom" Trembucker
* Musikraft maple neck with the more "accurate" CBS headstock and Jumbo frets.
* Ping Floyd Rose
* Schaller Tuners
* ... all for about 1/4 of the cost.
Fender can kiss my ass.

You can thank EVH and Fender for that.
What Fender wants for an Art Series guitar is an insult IMO.
And what EVH has done concerning "trademark infringelents" is even more ridiculous.
Like most, I've been a fan of EVH since 1978 ... but I must admit, not so much these days.
Just do it yourself and save yourself a grand or so ... everyone else does.
Here's another one of my Homey-builts.

Not sure how it would be illegal for you to paint a guitar for someone though... it's not like you're claiming it to be something it's not.
Unless of course you work for FMIC... than I could see a problem.-Rick

Nice job!
Building and painting these guitars is SOO much fun.
I just can't see paying all that money and being deprived the fun of building my own.
