this seems to be pretty common on v-trem to floyd conversions. yes, the retainer bar makes the string tree redundant, but if you took the tree off, you'd have a visible screw holes on the headstock. so while it's redundant, it doesn't hurt. And, aesthetically, people (at least me) prefer having the tree over having the hole there. i think people also keep the tree there as sort of a wink/nod back to charvel's heritage as a hot rod guitar where mods were commonplace.
