Yes, it is Mike Learn's gloved hand that created the graphic.

Not sure about Dune or Saruman, but I got the idea for the graphic from Mafia history. There is an organization called the Black Hand. I started looking on the web for just a hand picture. There was a red handprint picture that I think is on the cover of a book and then I mocked up the guitar on a guitar generator. Mike did a great interpretation of the original concept.

Yeah, I had seen "Skully" on eBay several times and nobody bit. I was lucky enough to have some money burning a hole in my wallet.
