What are they like. Are they just like other USA Charvels. I think I want one but I can't find one to try anywhere near me. What's the going rate for new and used ones. Thanks.

EVH Charvel's

I've read the quality was hit or miss with them, but that is just what I read. I haven't played one.

First...the quality on the 4 that i have played has been great. The necks
are thicker than normal...more like a vintage Strat. Thats about the only
thing that i dont love. D-tuner is cool... fit and attention to detail are fine.
Now to the most important part...the Pickup is a monster! Its a
specially wound Fender PUP that imo came out just right. It has definition, balls, and packs a punch. Everything you would want in
a hot pickup. The "Blk/yellow EVH art series seems to be a different
body,(maybe alder?) and its brighter and cuts through more than the red
Mahagony Red/white/black EVH. I have not played a white/black pickguard model yet. Ive played 3 different Red/black/whites...and
the one Black/yel Bumblebee. I like the Black one the best!
If you can get one for under $1850.00 (you can..Sam Ash) then
by all means order one, and you will not be dissapointed.
You will not like it, if your a wizard neck Ibanez player. (super thin neck) Other than that, i like them allot. I still prefer my Jackson PC-1
and CS Charvel necks over the much thicker EVH necks though. Hope
this helps. IMO NO guitar has a better PUP in it though!

Not to be argumentative w/ Robert, but to my knowledge the EVH guitars all have basswood bodies. Besides the fuller asymmetrical neck profile, they also differ from most Charvels in having a 1 5/8" nut width, smaller fret wire, and trem blocked for dive only.

They EVH's are nice guitars. I wish for the B&Y that they painted the headstock black. Pickups wise I prefer the EVH78 in my 25th over the one in the art-series. I also have a Wayne EVHII B&Y and that one the necjk is awesome a bit more thicker then the EVH AS. They are all different animals, the 25th, the Wayne and the Art-Series. I like then all cause they are different.

Great guitars in their own right. +1 on the pickup - it's a monster, and I like it a LOT better than the Duncan EVH/78. The neck is cool and unique, too. And, other than maybe one incident, I can't think of a single buyer who has voiced a quality gripe on an EVH guitar.

I've had 4 and still have three. I just ordered 3 more. Of the first 4 one had a funk nut-cut that shifted the strings way to low . Otherwise, all of them, have looked, played and sounded great. Absolutely no quality problems what-so-ever.
I think you can get them pretty cheap right now, if you look around. I picked up the three, new in sealed boxes for less than than $1750 each. I guess I also have to add YMMV.......

I just picked up a blk/wht one...I should have it by Wednesday. I'll let you know how it is. I was concerned about the pickguard deadening some of the tone...but I've been told they sound like the others. Too bad the input jack is like a strat and not on the side....

edgy, and cuts through and is quite a bit brighter than the Red/Blk
imo. Something is different?
