+1 plus to add to that it really varies on how much your hands sweat and how corrosive your sweat is .... I get a lot of life out of my strings because my hands do not sweat at all
Don't worry - I'll smack her if it comes to that. You do not sell guitars to buy shoes. You skimp on food to buy shoes! ~Mrs Tekky 06-03-08~

Don't the EVH models require "boiled" strings?

              As for Elixers

Elixers are great strings but coated strings and Floyd bridges are not a good combination. I had tried to put some DR Strings and Elixers on a couple different Floyd guitars and they've all had problems with strings slipping out of the lock on the bridge. I've never had that happen with normal strings.

Nice ax Kev, always liked the Jake config. I wanna say there are a few s-heads right around that range that have kinda somewhat similar specs.

I have been looking for that. A super strat or close to it, maybe even a real fender. How are those fakebuckers? I like the color and fingerboard. Is it rosewood?

I swapped in the Duncans for the original jackson pups - huge improvement. The board is rosewood, but it is stained dark - looks like a slightly lighter ebony in person. The thing that really sets it apart from a fender, besides the floyd, is the neck. 100% charvel - no finish (except oil and sweat), 1 3/4 nut and a nice medium to thin contour. Feels really good and broken in to my hand.

I like it even more now. Want to trade? Is it a OFR?

Yes, OFR as came on the guitar (I have a copy of the work order). Trade?? LOL! Do you have any idea what it took to even find an original SD Charvel s-head 22 frets with a floyd (let alone a factory floyd). Sorry, this one goes to the grave with me .

************* Im using DR coated strings on my Floyds...and i
bend a sharp fish hook U shape before cranking down on the set allen.
I have only had one D string slip once.. using 6 sets of DR's. on Floyds.
Maybe this hook helps it "Bite" more?

I'm using the DR coated strings too, the ones I have are blue peacock I think. Never had a problem with strings slipping, as I crank em tight.

But the flaking is really starting to piss me off. I don't pick or bend very hard, but 2 weeks in and about 30% of the coat has shed off.

Anyone else notice this? Or is it just me?

Too dark right now, maybe in the daytime I'll take better pics .... But anywhere, where this is a reflection the coat had flaked off.
