  • Questions from Charvel Forum Newbie...

hey gang. just joined this forum. you all seem very knowledgeable about your chosen axe and have some sweet f*ckin guitars! my previous charvel experience is with a 1986 model 4 which is an awesome axe.

i just purchased two ebay guitars...a jackson fusion xl pro and a 2005 san dimas standard. wanted to see what you guys thought of them. they both look like great guitars. i did a little research on the san dimas std and it appeared to ME that everything matched up (i.e. it was a genuine san dimas) prior to my bid on it. I checked out this site AFTER the purchase and it appears that a fellow member had the guitar prior to me, so that definitely eased my mind! one note...i read on another forum that ALL san dimas guitars have a skunk stripe neck. please tell me that that isn't true because this one sure doesn't!

a few members mentioned that they didn't like the duncan p/u so a dimarzio tone zone was installed. i'm planning on checking out the guitar to see if i like it (the pickup). if i don't, what tone zone would you all recommend? i'm not familiar with different dimarzio p/u's.

also...the fretboard on the san dimas DOES look a little parched. what would you all recommend for an oil product?

thanks again gang, and again, i would appreciate and welcome any insight, critiques, advice or suggestions about my incoming guitars.

    take care!

    -ben

There is a post in here with your Red San Dimas, ill be right back.

Yeah, its couple posts down in this forum. . click here :http://www.jcfonline.com/forums/showthread.php?t=73617

ps: I saw that FB, cannot believe the seller didnt clean and oil it . . .WTF???? Anywho. . .dont use lemon oil (no no) I have and use Gibson "Luthiers Choice" Fretboard condtioner. You can get it at like Guitar Center etc. Id def put it on kinda heavy ( 1 drop per fret)and use your finger to spread around, let it soak in for like 10-15 minutes than wipe and off excess with lint free cloth.

That's only for the ones with Strat headstocks. And what you have isn't really a true "San Dimas". It's just a name they gave to the new series since they're supposed to be made like the originals.

dude at Music Zoo told me they are San Dimas and they are made there as well.

                      Is that not true?

Music Zoo guy is wrong, Fender bought the company and reissued early Charvel designs. I have a MZ Charvel and love it, great guitar.

you guys are confusing me. so this is not made in san dimas or it is? it is not a san dimas or it is? bottom line...good guitar or not?! lol.

                          thanks!

NO its not made in san dimas but neither were the originals, glendora was where the first factory was. San Dimas was just the mailing address/PO box. they are not MADE in the orignal factory they are just made to the "original san dimas" specs. i believe they are made in the corona jackson/fender plant.

You're confusing "San Dimas" the model names with "San Dimas" the original 80s Charvels. The former could refer to the mid-90s Reissues, the current USA & custom shop guitars, and even the pseudo-strat headstock shape on the mid-90s guitars and the current strat body shape. All of the above have been "named" San Dimas, like a product brand if you will. But they were all made in Ontario or Corona, depending on the time period.

The original San Dimas Charvel guitars weren't "called" San Dimas, but that's where they were made. They're sometimes referred to as "San Dimas" guitars because that was the company address on their neckplates. These are the original Charvel custom guitars
