The Sub Camos were a special dealer run, as organized by a JCF'r. It wasn't an "endorsement" deal offered by FMIC, nor even organized by them. They just built out an order put together by a bunch of customers. ...And probably one of the last "non-official" artist runs you'll ever see get built.

In contrast (as Sully says), they approached Jake for a true endorsement deal. Same as Warren's. But Jake turned it down.

As to what Jake could do about a special dealer run by customers? That question was answered a few posts before - he could sick some lawyers on FMIC claiming they were profiting from his trademark designs. Whether they case had legal merit or not (win or no) would be irrelevant - the legal costs of defending the case to begin with would pretty much wipe out the profits from building the guitars.

Well I could see it now that he would probably have legal merit since he was offered a deal turned it down then they made the guitars anyway. Alexi should sue Jackson (RR24) and so should Lynch(Subcamo).

It would be better to make no pointy guitars at all anymore for liable reasons. Someone could lose an eye.

Is Jake with a current endorsement or did FMIC lowball him or is there more no one knows? I am curious on that one.

It would be interesting to see one of the cases actually go to court. I could see a judge deciding in favor of the artist on a guitar like what EVH made famous, but some of the other ones would probably be decided in favor of the manufacturer.
Special deals for JCF members on Jackson/Charvel, Suhr, Anderson, Nash, Splawn, Bogner, LSL, Ibanez, Diezel, Friedman, Bad Cat, 3rd Power, Dr. Z, ENGL and more. FREE SHIPPING! 0% FINANCING!

Digimart is a great website its a place for all manufaturers to show there goods online in Japan, every ad is a different store.

I bought my Kerry King ESP from there it was the same one he used in Seasons in the Abyss video, it was never for sale here.

I'd have thought that the artist would have to prove that they came up with something as a 'signature' on their guitar to give them 'just cause', cos otherwise Jake's white guitar is just a hardtail Fender strat with a humbucker. Would 2 back angled single coils count as that defining feature? Was he the first to back angle a single coil? I think Dick Dale probably got there first....

Also, did he 'design' his purple / blueburst Charvels himself, or did Charvel make them for him on spec? If it was the later, than surely it's a Charvel design which he made famous, not a Jake design....

I know the EVH stripes is actually trademarked but I dont see the 70s strat hot rodded Charvel style is.

Its just fear of lawsuits that has them worried.

Personally, and this is just my two cents; I don't think it should matter.

This is why, are they going to stop putting floyds on guitars, because someone got a record deal with a floyd on their guitar? are they going to stop using humbuckers, because someone here used them and made a cd?

I guess Ford cannot make a blue car, because Acura has blue cars?

If 100 brands are all putting out lespauls and strats, then it really comes down to which brand is really "better" for the person then, doesn't it?

I don't get it and now I"m not even making sense to myself.

They should remove the plastic covering the pickguard. It makes the guitar look like shit with it peeling up like that. I had to look at the picture several times to realize it was just the plastic peeling. Did Jake's have a 3 bolt neck?

Yes, it started its life as a Fender Strat
