Is the price derived from the fact it's reliced, or because it's Alder which would make it fall under the masterbuilt surcharge according to the last pricing list we saw?

As for period correct, I didn't even consider or really could care less of the correctness of the relicing, I just liked the color and the setup. I just could live with the relicing, if the price was right.
Come and get one in the yarbles, if you have any yarbles, you yunick jelly thou!

The price is derived from a search to find out just how much guys like you and I will take, and what we'll pay.

Unfortunately, they found their bottom a year ago.

Dont get me wrong, mine are awesome, and I'll still buy them from the original sucke...er, I mean buyer.

        But not new.

If you forget the historical accuracy, but bearing in mind what a solid colour strathead custom order would cost you, I don't think the pricing I was offered (sub 3k by a decent margin) is too unreasonable for this. However, I was put off it when I found out they'd made 10 of them, all the same colour....

              Relic fad!

I agree with most of you. Everyone wants to do a relic. Unfortunately as cool as this Charvel is, it should realistically sell for $1,500.00. I think they might have an extra two hours of labor belt sanding the body down, but that's it. When will the price of guitars stop rising. It is getting more and more difficult to afford high end guitars. These manufacturers are really taking good instruments out of the hands of working and non-working musicians. It seems like ever since those scumbag whores at Fender took over Jackson/ Charvel, prices have become unreachable. I love my Soloist, but I don't think I will ever be able to afford another one.

                Preach on Brother!

I agree. I think what the custom shop has always done best is one-off custom guitars. Runs and special editions may be easier, more profitable and might even bring in more cash in terms of the overall business, but it's taking away from what I see as their core strength. If you lose all the one-off custom orders coming in, this stuff won't support them forever.

Given the current state of the economy, and the probability that gas prices are going to go up and stay up for a while, I can't see there being much of a demand for a large number of high end guitars.

Yeah, if it's a Nitro lacquered vintage Fender Strat.
                    +1

I can appreciate a vintage instrument with a worn finish. It adds character and individuality, and it suggests that the instrument was much used and has survived it’s years because it was well made and sounds good. These relic guitars should be called counterfeit guitars because they are designed to look like something they are not. It’s bullshit. Furthermore, to impose a worn finish on a guitar originally equipped with polyurethane paint is the height of this kind of forgery. It’s like bullshit on top of bullshit. Otherwise it’s a nice guitar.

Who knows. In 20 or 30 years we might actually see a genuinely worn polyurethane finish. At least then relic Charvels could have a genuine fake finish.

that was my recollection also, I remember it from NAMM pics, and I thought it was stupid then too.

relic'ing, what a total joke. :ROTF:

like axweilder said, it's just a lameass way to move the seconds and mistakes. I find it amazing that there's a market of morons who actually pay more for this nonsense.
the guitar players look damaged - they've been outcasts all their lives

The black and natural strat heads at the Music Zoo are reasonable. The others are up there but they have some wild combos like the Metal Flake ones.

I got to confess that I like it. It might not be the correct specs and the relic a bit over the top/not done right, but its still cool. For me that is the only way a strat style guitar should look. The Price is a bit high though and the colours not mine...
