Looks like that's their policy for out-of-warranty instruments. I don't see where it addresses whether or not they honor the lifetime warranty on pre-Fender guitars for the original purchaser. Someone here may know the specifics if they had to make a claim right after the buyout. My guess is that the cost of warranty work was figured into the valuation of JCMI when the deal was done, but I'm no expert. When I bought my little business I honored the warranties, but I'm sure all kinds of different arrangements are possible.
edit- I looked for threads, but came up empty. I think JW may have addressed it at one time. This mentions (near the end) that the warranty applies to guitars made after 1/1/2000, which is pre-buyout, but definitely not "lifetime" for somebody with a problem on their '99 guitar:

I just wanted to update everyone on my purchase of #3883
overall, the guitar has seen better days. The Kahler is in working order, I just need to clean the saddle rollers. The body has a spot on the back that has worn down to the wood. I think that body is ok as stands.
The neck, well, it looks like the headstock was completely broken off at one time and was repaired. It does look like a professional job. I will need new frets/nut plus a level on the fret board. I've never seen this before but the fretboard has wear marks in that as you run your finger over it, it's feels wavey...probably can be sanded down/leveled when the frets are replaced.
Originally, I thought about restoring the guitar but now I'm leaning towards keeping it in this relic'd condition.
Once I get it all pieced back together, I post some further pictures.
