Wish my copy was this close too dead on, but it's close enough for me.
I want to go out nice and peaceful in my sleep like my grandfather, not screaming and hollering like the passengers in his car.

Great job on that reproduction, looks fun to play! And there must be a good story on the Vai pic...

I'm not sure if I ever posted any pics of my green meanie build here. Most everyone on this board has always seemed to be against the "relic-ing" of a green meanie build. I feel that if you are going to do one...it should look like the real thing.

The green meanie era I was after is the later scalloped horn era...but before the black pickguard & stickers...like you see here:

Mine is a Wayne body, Musikraft neck, Duncan Custom 5 in the bridge, Dimarzio hs-2, & Dimarzio Air Norton in the neck. Here it is:

What's the point in having under/behind the trem routed to pull sharp if you have it blocked? 'Bout as useful as tits on a bull, IMO.
Guess you weren't playing Vai stuff: one of his many signature techniques is to pull up on the wiggle stick as well as depress it.
Aside from all that, that is an awesome reproduction. Nice job!

ahull123, that looks killer! how did you source out the stickers? I'd imagine it not being an easy task.

ahull123--- Excellent job. You have captured that later era of the Green Meanie perfectly. Very nice work. I know those old skater stickers could not be easy to find.

vector--- Sorry to disappoint. I was going for a dead-on replica of Vai's Green Meanie in the looks department. So....that includes the lion's claw trem route.

But when it comes to the set-up... I set it up for ME & no one else. I am playing it...not Steve Vai. I set up all of my Floyds to dive only.

It's all good. I get wanting to have the ax set up just for you. But it IS kinda funny having that iconic and somewhat intricate lions claw rout but the Floyd's blocked to dive only... kinda like a spoiler on a souped up Honda Civic- doesn't really do anything but give the car a certain look. And my comment was suggesting that you probably aren't playing Vai-penned tunes or in a Vai-esque manner, as he does a LOT of pull ups, flutters and all manner of wacky, amazing shit. The irony of having a Vai replica and not playing in a Vai-esque style is, well, pretty funny IMO.

Fucking google rat race trying to piece together the answer from 5 unfinished threads is what's stupid.

This totally belongs in this thread so, Nice Thread Resurrection Dude. That thing looks dead on. Awesome job.

Thread resurrection for useful purposes, where the post is relevant like this is cool. It's only irritating when some noob take ten 5+ year old threads and posts something like "Nice!" or random smilies.

Heh, even then, it's not catastrophic enough to even be irritating. Sometimes it's a cool thread you might never have seen otherwise.

Thanks Bsteff, I have looked at your guitar for literally years, I like the idea that our guitars are replicas of the same guitar at different points in time. I think you did a great job, and I am proud to show mine along with yours. It is too bad there aren't more of them! and thanks everyone for the nice comments, I worked really hard to make it as exact as I could make it, and based on the comments I guess I did OK!

I like my guitars pristine looking, not into relic etc, but this is crazy, probably because it's green. Love the look of these.

vector--- Yep. I know what you mean.

When I first saw Vai with the Green Meanie (Yankee Rose video must have been first for me)... I had just started playing & that guitar was just the coolest thing I had ever seen...and it made a big impression on me.

But as I developed as a player...I always used the bar in a much more EVH way. Plus... I could never keep a floating Floyd in tune to my liking through the all the palm muting, double stop bends, & broken strings...so I guess I just found my "thing" with it blocked & quit trying to deal with a floating Floyd fairly early on & never looked back.

You really nailed it! That's the best Green Meanie replica I've seen. Congrats on a cool guitar.

What was his reaction when you showed it to him? Did he dig it?

                              It's a great replica.
