The safe path is to leave it unmolested. So I am leaning towards trading it.

Painted Charvel Neck...sand it or leave it?

if you do decide to remove the finish (i wouldn't), i'd recommend stripping the back of the neck so that you don't alter the backshape. it also takes less time, which is awesome. you may want to sand the back of the headstock, along with its sides, because it's likely that stripper on the back of the headstock will seep through the tuning holes and get on the face of the headstock, which would be a bad thing.

I would sell it and buy exactly what I wanted. Because it's an original Charvel neck, somebody will overpay for it. You can then order a Warmoth or Musikraft to your exact specs and have a fair amount of money left over along with a neck that is as good as if not better than the original Charvel that didn't suit you to begin with. Seems like a no brainer.
