  • Green Meany Arrives! - New Custom Shop (Pics Inside)

No, not that Green Meany! Sorry, I couldn't resist. Pics...

    On to the specs...

    - Strat body
    - Punky (Swamp) Ash
    - Candy Apple Green
    - Birdseye maple neck & fretboard
    - Strathead
    - 22 jumbo frets
    - Black dot inlays
    - Satin finish on neck & fretboard
    - Gotoh tuners
    - Top loader w/input jack on face of body
    - 1 hum & 2 single coils – Dimarzio Super 3 & Area '58s
    - White pearliod pickguard
    - Volume (hum) & Volume (both SCs)
    - 5-way blade
    - Original Floyd, non-recessed
    - Trem is blocked for no pull-up
    - All chrome hardware, inc. strap buttons and knob
    - Custom shop logo on the back of the headstock
    - Serial # 7893

I've only had it for a day so far, so just first impressions for now. Killer guitar. Very toneful. The body wood with the blocked trem make the body sustain and vibrate almost like a PC1! Smoking neck - super birdseye, and a great feel. Went out on a limb with the satin finish, but am really enjoying it. It's a great compromise for necks between oiled feel & clearcoated stability. Feel-wise, very close to an oiled neck. I'm digging it!

BTW, the pics just don't do the color justice. It's so very cool. When I first pulled it out of the case, my 5 year old daughter literally squealed "oooh! minty fresh!", and then sniffed the guitar expecting it to smell like gum! ...Not kidding! :ROTF:

I also have to give some special props to the custom shop guys, especially Brian McD and Chris Fleming. This guitar involved a "mea culpa" for some prior issues. After hearing the initial complaints, McD and Chris were convincingly concerned about hearing through the problems and, more importantly, trying to make things right. And then they went ahead and did it. Their efforts have gone a long way in restoring my faith in the J/C custom shop. So thanks to them both - you guys rule. And thanks for an absolutely smokin' guitar!

Also - as always! - Matt from Matt's Music just rules. Soup to nuts, Matt takes care of his customers.

They sound great. The Super 3 is one of my favorites, nice and chunky with a good midrange. I'm new to the Area '58s, and they're pretty bright. A lot of top end, so maybe not for everyone. But, tone-wise, that's exactly the vibe I was going for with this one - sort of a hot rod'd 50s ash-bodied strat.
