  • Hopefully someone will have theirs today to report on it and end the speculation, but if these are like the recent custom shop stratheads (and that is what people are saying), they will have a slightly fuller profile than the recent pointies. The recent pointies had a very similar profile to the old SD pointies, which was also very similar to the Model Series bolt-on profile. So, I'd expect it to have a slightly fuller profile than the Model 4. I have one recent CS strathead and one CS pointy, and this is what my experience has been.

Savage, not sure where you get the "based on the '82 necks" thing. There was no standardized profile in '82. The catalogs & pricelists offered 3 profiles then:

G-1 (wide, flat), G-2 (boat or V), and G-3 (early '60s), but there was a lot of variation as they were custom handshaped necks. According to guys who have played lots of old ones and the new CS stratheads, they seem to be based more on the later San Dimas stratheads, which were a bit more standardized and generally had a fuller profile than pointy necks of the time.

I read the only review on the new usa's from chubtone and he said

"So on to the review. They nailed the neck in my opinion. The width and the shape is right. To me it is the perfect neck shape and reminds me of the typical 1982-1983 era neck.

what is a typical 82 or 83 neck shape?

      • They were all over the map. Different thicknesses & backshapes depending on what was ordered. From what you've posted about your '82, you got a very thin one. I would not expect these to be as thin, but until more people get their hands on them and report back, it's all a guess. I'm just saying that my '06 strathead is a little fuller than my '05 pointy, my '84 pointy, and my Model Series bolt-on necks, and I suspect that these production models will be similar to the recent stratheads, based on what's been said by people at the shop and people who checked them out at NAMM.

        • Work has kept me away from the board for some time, and the first time I log back in I see this. Right now I am contemplating what to sell to purchase one of these. The only thing is I wonder what colors will be offered later.

Still, I have emailed FMIC in the past about offering something like this, and I know many others have as well. So, I feel like I should pony up and buy one now so they will see this as a successful venture and continue to offer product at this pricepoint.

Mine is a early '81 that was custom ordered(not by me) back then
The original person that ordered it changed his mind after a few days of owning it(LUCKY ME!) so i grabbed it.
The neck is a 21 fretter,1-5/8th nut and is extremely thin and super fast,it does have a thick lacquer finish but i love it.
I wouldn't sell it for $10,000 and i am serious

body size would be like, smaller then a Fender Strat?

                        • With the last minute souring of the relationship between Matts Music and FMIC ... I nearly lost my pre-order for the Tangerine So Cal. Performance Music Center, who I switched my pre-order to told me earlier today they had ran out of Tangerines!

After I stewed for about 30 minutes and desperately searched ebay Performance called back and said they had one more Tangerine coming but it wouldn't be to their store until Friday. More days to wait, but it appears I may still be getting one.

Can't wait for Rob's pics to give me Tangerine So Cal fix until I can get mine.

                            • I was fortunate to play a san dimas 1-2h today and loved it, all the ones at the shop were already sold, but I'm the first name on the waiting list for new colors. I was just wondering what people who were lucky enough to get one today paid for it if you don't mind sharing. Thanks

                              • Hey Guys New Here...

The New USA Production is probley one of the best moves Charvel ala Fender has done.Note I never have played one yet but I do have a EVH Art and hopefully in a month I will get one of the Model 1-2H but think with a Charvel raw maple neck,Tone Zone or Ducan,Charvel Tele or Boogie Body Shape and a FR even if it is German for that kind of price I don't mind at all.I just cant wait to get my hands on one.
