Not to mention there are still plenty of Mom-N-Pops out there that cling to the notion that anything other than Fender and Gibson are worthless.
I agree with that generally and it was in Upstate NY, which aint the same as the City. Anyway, what gets me that "Ive been told its work twice that" stuff in the gbase ad. That is what makes it an issue. In those cases, I have seen mom and pop shops try to sell stuff for 2x what it is actually worth. Not half.
Case in point, a mom and shop in North NJ has (and probably still has) kalhered 2 hum black pointy with an ebony board for $1k. Not such a bad price, but by no means a great deal. Trouble was, the guitar had a changed non-logoed (probably chandler) neck on it. Asked about that and they got mad at me (my mistake, never call out an asshole unless you want a fight).
Also, there is the fin'd '83 v-trem 1 hum american flag graph pointy which was in NYC for all those years at $1500.
I disgress, but you get the point.
"I''ll say what I'm gonna say, cuz I'm going to Hell anyway!"
They were probably told it was worth twice the price by the guy they bought it from, or maybe they just didn't believe the guy.
Having access to GBase, one would think they could search other dealers and get a price, and probably did, but probably found a bunch of Model models, or none at all.
Same for Ebay.
The fact is, not everyone with a PC is internet-smart. Maybe they just didn't know you could find this info so easily. Maybe they felt they got bad info from an unreliable source.
Or maybe they looked into it and realised that they totally screwed the guy who sold it to them, and decided to ward off the bad karma by letting it go cheap.
I want to depart this world the same way I arrived; screaming and covered in someone else's blood
The most human thing we can do is comfort the afflicted and afflict the comfortable.
I think you got a good buy. I remember going to guitar center and when they were blowing them out they went for about 1200 w/o case. good buy....thumbs up
ive dealt with imperial music before, they are pretty much honest & Bill the owner is a stand up guy. they arent too far upstate hudson valley, but they dont move alot of guitars like this, its much more of the fender gibson type market up there. if it was hanging on the wall for a while with no buyers theres a good chance they just priced it to sell. a fews yrs back he sold an old ibanez destroyer exactly like Phil's minus the kahler for a song. they just dont move that kind of stuff up there. plus ever since IBM left that area the economy is even shittier there than it ever was.

+100 He's actually right up past West Point...I got the all time screaming deal a couple of years ago from him on my current Les Paul Historic R0 ( like a couple of grand under used market price for a brand new guitar) and had a chance to go to his shop when I was out visiting family. Super cool guy, cool little shop, and I totally see this guitar going out the door for that and Bill knowing exactly what it is.
