Well, proves the sentiment that they are still out there. What does not make sense though is the failure to 'bay it as a music store (particuarly in NY!) is rare that does not try to max on profit on something.

One thing is true, if that is legit (and I dont know one way or the other), it is probably the find of the year.

The bigger question is, at $800 orignal buying price, how long before she in on the way to a new onwer for $$$$$$. LOL!

I have a very hard time too believing that they let it go for so cheap.

That says to me they had some doubts about it.

Who can afford to throw away money?

I agree no store is not going to know the value of what they sell.
my 12 year old nephew knows the value of a '82 original charvel and he does not even play guitar yet
but it still was a real good deal even if it is a partial charvel
If it's not a CHARVEL then i dont want to play it,look at it or even fuckin THINK about it!

Believe it. There was a thread last year on exactly this situation concerning a pre-pro that went for less than this.

The store received a ton of calls after the guitar sold off gbase, and then the store tried to back out of the deal. The JCFer who snagged it threatened them, and they finally sent the guitar his way for the agreed on price.

That's why it's awfully important for people to keep their mouths shut when they see a great deal in a store. Don't blab to the store how much something is really worth, even after the buyer gets it, because they might just get another one from the same person, and for an equally great price, and you might be the one who gets first shot at it.

Tracy is a well-known Charvel collector, and a good guy in general.

Well this is good to know since i am in the market for a '81 or a '82 and would never let a store know the true value

This is kind of a threadjack, but what about this?

I can't really make out what's written on the pic of the backing plate. Even with reading glasses, but don't you guys think this is a pretty good buy as well?

                    I still don't buy it.

You can't convince me that the guitar store knew it was a 2K guitar but only put it up for $800. That's pure bullshit.

Like I said, the low price says to me that the store had some misgivings about the guitar.

at least what you are saying makes me feel better about missing out on it

That one is reasonably priced for what it is.

However, without the graphic those run at $700.
The rosewood is less desirable for Charvel players than the maple, unless you like rosewood. Me, I like rosewood so it's just fine.
The graphic is indeed at least a $200 upcharge, but for some people it makes no difference.

                        Some things to think about.

Also, be aware that Musicians Friend sold most of these and some went very cheap (sub $1000) under their scratch & dent policy. Now, I have taken advantage of that in the past and found barely any scratches or denting on the guitar (I had a strat with the logo bubbling, that's it), but I'm sure there really might be some real dents out there.

That's one of the recent reissues. Not an 80s San Dimas. Still a very good buy, IMHO, though.

Maybe they didn't know the value and looked on the Charvel website and saw the new $999 line plastered all over and priced it according to that?
