It looks great and I love some of the colors they're using, but I have one complaint.

I hate when I need to make small neck adjustments and the adjustment is at the heel.

I makes no sense to me. I'm sure they have their reasons, but it makes it a PITA to make small adjustments.
MAKE THE ADJUSTMENT AT THE HEADSTOCK.....DAMN!

Anyway, can't wait to try one of these out myself.
Currently at 78 guitars - Paul Reed Smith, Jackson, Robin, Washburn, Carvin, Peavey, U.S. Masters, G&L, Hamer, Godin, BC Rich, Yamaha, Fender, ESP, Kramer, Cort, Ibanez, Aria Pro & Charvel

The set ups have been great on all the Charvels I have pulled out of the box so far. Great. I am only a half hour from the factory though so these guitars are in the same low humidity environment the whole time and probably only sit on a truck overnight. By the time they pass through the much more humid areas of the country, I'd imagine a brand new, oil finished neck could need a slight set-up/neck adjust. The frets have felt great to me. Ever since I sold my stainless steel fretted Suhrs, no normal fret has ever felt as smooth, but these feel very good to me.

Congrats to Charvel/FMIC for getting it right.
You shall be rewarded with my business, perhaps more than once.
I get the feeling like they have listened to us, to some extent.

I got news for you, every new USA Jackson I've owned - including 2 Custom Shops - not to mention the dozen or so USA production Jacksons I've owned had to be set up.........to MY personal preference, which seems to be the part that's being ignored here.

If you cannot provide honest, accurate info, go play another brand.

EVERY guitar needs a setup to individual preference, and yes that includes a fret polish/dress/whatever.

I'm assuming you're basing the "need" of a polish job based on the feel of your Customs and your used/years-old guitars?

And the knob doesn't feel like the barrel knob they've used since....79??

                  And....?

Seriously people, let's not berate this series over nitpicky bullshit.

Take it for what it is, give a totally honest opinion without leaving out important/relevant details, or STFU and patronize another brand.

Charvel doesn't need you to survive, they have tons of other people standing in line with money in-hand to replace you.

They did what they had to do to keep a USA-made guitar at the price everyone agreed on. Where is the problem?
Dude, you're either trying to be Charvel's employee of the month or need to get your panties out of a bunch. This guy is providing honest, accurate info - not ripping the guitar to shreds.

Thanks RobRR for the honest appraisal. I may snap up one of these myself.
You sir, can go you fuck yourself and don't let the door hit you in the vagina on the way out.
You're such a pretencious, phony, boring, transparent, self righteous worthless fuck..You are amusing as a genital wart!

-how is it for feed back?

I wonder what the purpose of having one screw be longer is? Are the three shorter screws "normal/standard" length and the fourth extra long? Or, is the longer one the "normal" screw and the other three are shorties?

Poorly polished frets and/or crowning marks ABSOLUTELY can affect the playability of a guitar. Unless you don't bend strings jazz boy.

                          First..

Great review and pics!! Esp tearing her down to show us all the dirty goodies.. Nice clean cavities and all..

I appreciate all the details.. I do my own setups, so I can weed out whats preference and whats not.

Now, no offense to anyone, but its always been my impression that well polished frets aid bending??

Also, I didnt catch Matts announcement that has been referenced in a couple of spots. Pls fill me in..

                          Thanks!!
Man, Im trying to decide what to sell to get one of these...
Would it be worth giving up a model 4 for??

....tuner selection choice is not a "known issue" :ROTF: really, who the hell cares about tuners on a guitar that has a locking nut? you could have those cheapass econo-tuners, or LSRs and you'd have no difference whatsoever because of the locking nut. i have grovers on a guitar that's 20 years old. it still holds its tune wonderfully.

rupe said it best; these are not guitars for the screw counter or purist.
