OK it finally got here today and since there are plenty enough pics of these orange guitars around here, I'll wait until I install the better pickguard and knob I got for it, I think that will make it really look the way it should. then I'll post pics of the end result.
I notice the stock pg is larger beyond the screws than the Strat pg I ordered from Warmoth. the lack of a bevel is part of this, and it looks as though they just extended the sides of the pg a bit further too. the screws match up it appears, but the edges of the replacement strat pg I ordered protrude less than the Charvel one. too bad they didn't make it glossy and beveled. this Candy Tangerine paint job screams out for a glossy pg.
I will have to get used to the unfinished neck feel. it's the first one I've owned like this and it's almost too much at first. my board is not as rolled as some others must be. I can feel the fret ends, not bad, but definitely there and only slightly rolled.
the neck profile feels good. it's a bit thinner than my thin-C profile custom Warmoth Tele, about the same as my Gibson V actually, and a bit thicker than my Model 2.
mine is very resonant acoustically and responded well through the amp. we'll really see what's up at rehearsal this Friday and the gig Saturday. so far I like the DiMarzios.
my floyd was canted down a bit, and tuning the guitar up made it somewhat more so. action is still low, although p/up height may need adjusting. we'll see.
I'm gonna go through these strings and then set it up for 10's with the new pg and new knob (stock one is too abrasive and too flat black for me) and level out the floyd a bit.
the Dunlop straplocks that came with it feel cheesy and loose. this is my first exposure to these. I can hardly tell how they are holding the strap on. as with all my guitars, a set of Schallers are going on it asap for peace of mind.
it's also my first floyded guitar, so I'll be getting used to that also.
overall I'm very happy with the guitar. the paint is amazing. very deep and clear. the color just rebounds off any light and it's really something. this color is going to become more special with time I think.
the guitar players look damaged - they've been outcasts all their lives
Speaking of strings on these new production models ... it appears that they come with 9-42 strings. Anyone know what brand of strings the stock ones are? Are they just generic or some specific brand? They kind of don't bother me. What a compliment!
I usually use GHS Boomers 9-42 and "normal" tuning. I have a couple of guitars that I tune down a 1/2 step which I'm thinking of moving to the "custom light" 9-46 strings.
