I'm actually kinda digging the volume knob. May have to pick one of these up a couple of weeks from now and give myself a birthday present.

How did you come to the conclusion that they are made of rubber? I ask because the knob on my So Cal is clearly brass. So I'm curious: Did you come across one of these new Charvels with a knob that was truly rubber (a prototype perhaps), or is it just "make shit up day" at the Foulacy house?

WTF, what? He said it's made of rubber. It's not. I'm asking him if he just made it up off the top of his head or if there's some other explanation. In other words, unless there's a rubber knob that looks just like this one on a new Charvel somewhere that Foulacy saw and hence based his post, I'm calling bullshit. Is my post not clear, or you just don't like what I wrote?

I cannot determine what exactly the knob is made out of? When I first tapped on it (on the guitar) it felt kinda plastic-ey.But discovered it's the PG's plastic that gives the sound.
I removed it and had some weight to it,it is def sprayed cause underneth had overspray on it.
It's cast of aluminum maybe? Pot metal? Got me, I can ask Mike McG @ Charvel. He will def know the answer.
I doubt it's rubber or hard plastic.

Can you see the threads in the hole where the set screw goes? Do you see gold-colored metal? That's brass.

Probably leftover Fleckstone from the 80s

I don't see what anyone has against the knob, personally. Yes, it's different, but not apalling.

jeesus. i came to that conclusion when i touched it and turned it, and it looked and felt like a really hard and rough rubber of some kind. maybe it's more of a plastic composite or something. i don't own the guitar so no, i didn't take off the knob in the music store and see what it looked like inside. maybe it's a coating on the outside of a metal knob or something. in not a single picture or on any of these guitars i have played has the knob looked or felt like brass.... has anyone else looked or touched these knobs and immediately said "YEP THAT'S BRASS ALRIGHT!" ?? you are a fucking douche.

btw I played a black so-cal at my local shop today and it was AMAZING. i also played a red style 1 and a tangerine so-cal. how do the dimarzio's sound compared to the duncan's? anybody done a test?

It's most definitely a metal, and seems coated in somethin like a cross between, a truckbed spray liner, sandpaper/grip tape. Maybe it's forged that way and only wet sprayed or something.

It has the best traction of any knob I've had, but the flat color doesn't mesh ideally with the rest of the more glossy black of the guitar.

I finally took the plastic off the pickguard. Wow rather difficult, had to remove some screws and the vol/toggle just to get it completely out.

Still extremely pleased, but haven't had the time to really get to know her, final exams this week/weekend.

I heard the material was sourced from Area 51. This could be a FMIC top secret material, and like it has already been said in 20 years could be worth more than the guitar itself or maybe even priceless.

The topic regarding this knob has got me curious and has created much GAS. I might have to get one of these already just because of this cool knob on these guitars.

if you have children, keep them at a distance from the knob
