I think it is "cost". For many 3k+ is a large amount to have invested in a guitar. Bret was a large collector like you Tracy and kept his guitars for many years. Many do not do the same, I think Chuck had a shift in priorities, Many are satisfied with the temporary ownership of an expensive Charvel. Others don't feel the same magic and pass them on sooner.

good point...also some folks buy them just to flip as a way to make profit/money....hence why they hype them but don't keep them long.
