  • Who here played all three USA PRODUCTION models side by side?

Are there some variations in the necks thickness?
I went over the past reviews and it seems there are more than one opinion on the neck thickness of these three?
If it's not a CHARVEL then i dont want to play it,look at it or even fuckin THINK about it!

I've played the So-Cal and SD1 side-by-side and the necks were the same.

good to hear cause a few of the past reviews had me wondering
one guy said the neck was thinner than a DK2 and a 83 pointy while another said they were thicker?

I played 2 of each all in one sitting. The necks were virtually identical. They're CNCed, with maybe a little bit of finish work done by hand. The differences you've been reading are most likely due to peoples' perceptions or differences in how they describe them in writing. Ibanez Wizard fan will call them baseball bats and somebody else will think they're thin as hell.

WRT to the guy saying it was thinner than a DK2, are you sure he wasn't talking about a DK2M? They are thicker than a regular DK2. Quite a bit more, imo. As for the '83 pointy, they were not all the same. Many of them were made for dealer stock and those had pretty consistent thicknesses & profiles, but some were thinner and some were very thick, probably due to being custom-ordered that way.

When I picked mine up all 3 were there and I can say that all the necks were the same.period.
I played the CT So-Cal on the floor (which I thought was mine),the Tele and then mine. Then walked over to look at the serial #'s and felt the neck on the Red Style 1 & the Blk So-Cal and same to me.However:fret work varied slightly.

I felt the necks were the same on all 3.JMO tho'.
That being said I bought a 2 hum no pickguard strat that the dealer said came from the rep's car and with the serial #'s being different from the new production serial numbers I may have a NAMM display version. The neck on mine has more of a rolled edge to the fingerboard and flame all over the neck.
The new ones all play great.

I've tried all three at the local Long and McQuade's. The necks all felt the same to me. The only one that felt weird or different, if you will, was the Tele shaped one. Not because of the neck, mind you. More because of the body.

Tele's are foreign to me as I've not played many. I could get used to it though.

I'll throw in a shot of the neck plate and the odd serial #.

Here is a bad shot of the neck plate a 4 digit rather than 6 digit.
The flame is like that all over the neck. Its just hard to get my camera to work sometimes. Its me I know.LOL

Why would a 4-digit plate be odd? Seems they're just going in sequence with the others. My '05 Star has 4. Haven't Charvels always had just 4 numbers?
