  • Some info on Early San Dimas Pointys

    Hi Guys,

Can anyone give me any info on Viv Cambells San Dimas he used in Dio's early years?

The white one with the skulls.

I know its a Early 80's Charvel San Dimas Pointy with Ebony Board.

Not fussed about what pickups he used but i read on this board he had invaders.

    Anything else i have missed?

    Looking at finding one

Also, anyone have any info on new 2008/09 San Dimas Pointys? i cant find anything anywhere. Someone mentioned this on another board.

    Thanks!

They are done making production run pointies...you'd have to order one thru the custom shop if you wanted a new one. I'd look for one from a few years ago...a white one, then have the paint done.

Hey man, thanks for the info!

      Finally some helpful info.

When were the pointys last in production? 2005?

Did they make white ones with Ebony or Maple fretboards with one Hum?

      Thanks

I think it was 2006 that saw the manufacture of the last production pointies, and yes, they would have made single hums in white with ebony and maple boards....
Popular is not the same as good
Rare is not the same as valuable
Worth is what someone will pay, not what you want to get

In the Nightswan he has the Full Shred.

Apprently reading from this board he used a Invader back in the day.

But thats just what i read

A dinky body is 7/8th the size of a regular strat-style body.

That seems like a very small difference?

                      Thanks for the info

So how many years was that production line? 2001-2006? When I bought me pointys I loved them. And it was as close as I was going to get to the San Dimas guitars I always wanted 20+ years ago. I was wondering if they would hold their value. Hell even if they don't I will still love my Charvel Pointys.
                        Just one more guitar!

If the question is specifically about the "Standard" and "Traditional" model production guitars, then the answer is '05 & '06. Prior to that, there were pointies at NAMM shows, a few customs, and the limited bullseye run from '02.

Guitar in question is in this video. Dio - We Rock

                              http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=szcVWTyrq_Q

Love the close-up during the solo (NOT!)

Looks like a painted neck as well?

At 3:09 it looks like he has a DiMarzio X2N. My eye sight isn't so hot. Maybe it's an Invader with the pole pieces blurred together?
