so how does that evh sound compared to other guitars? sweet axe bro
It`s got the best pickup out of every guitar I own, I ended up using this guitar for an entire album. we tried everything from a San Dimas pointy, loaded with a TB14, my home made Superstrat with a Bare Knuckle VH2 pickup, the ESP Tiger that has the Screamin Demon, and various others that we borrowed for the recording. And the 78 custom in the EVH destroyed them all.
Its not the highest of outputs but it has clarity and sheer power, I`m thinking of replacing every guitar pickup with this one but they are suppost to be super expensive so that might be out of the question.

If I had a dream guitar, it would be exactly like the EVH Art but with my own graphics.

BTW - the neck on this thing is my fave also, just the right depth to it, slightly fuller than most Charvels but still fast

See thats the thing. Paint on all the new Art EVHs are top notch in person, but the neck on the new Art series is nothing like a charvel to me. I understand it is more like what EVH plays these days (Wolfgang/EBMM -more bat like).

I have gotten the chance to play a old orginal SD EVH B/Y s-head charvel. Talk about a fast thin neck!

As I understand it, the necks Ed got from Wayne way back then were thick. When he went to Kramer, they laser-scanned the original neck and CNCd the necks for his guitars using that neck's specs, including the slightly off-axis backshape worn from years of playing. EB and Peavey did the same thing.

So, it's not that the neck on the EVH A.S. is nothing like a Charvel, rather Charvel necks are nothing like the original ones made for EVH.

According to a Guitar Player interview with EVH from 1979, you would be wrong:

"EVH: Ah, it was actually the old '58 Strat. I took the vibrato tailpiece out. Like with new Fenders, the vibrato tailpiece isn't half as good as the original old ones. So I took that out of the '58 and went to Charvel and bought a heavier piece of wood. And I really like wide necks. I hate skinny necks. I like them real flat and wide, almost like a classical guitar. They're thin...I don't know how to explain it. They're real wide up and down, but thin the other way.

GP: So it's wide across the fingerboard, but a thin neck.

              EVH: Right, right.

              GP: That's a maple neck?

EVH: Yeah. And also I don't like 'em sprayed. I hate the lacquer shit.

GP: Do you put oil on it?

EVH: No, nothin'. Just bare wood. Because I like to feel the wood, you know? I hate to slip and slide. You start sweatin', and you can't stretch the strings."

Pretty much what the old one I played was to a T.

Hey, peoples tastes change. I used to be a huge fan of Vs etc. Still own them, just dont play them. May be at least one of the reasons EVH *gave* his original to Mr. Abbot, if he is not playing it b/c it aint his thing, who needs it. ;-)

Also, EVH was with Kramer in the early-to-mid-80s. They weren't laser scanning anything back then. That didn't happen until the 90s, during the Wolfgang days. Not to mention that Ed's preferences may have changed over time.

Except for the fact that the EVH is a 1 5/8" nut width vs. 1 11/16'" for the PC-1, the neck contours do feel very similar.

Huh? My EVH neck doesn't feel anthing like my PC1s. Very different, IMHO.

I agree. I have played both a number of times, EVH felt more bat-like to me.

I love this guitar, used it for the whole last album, the pickup is so
articulate, and the neck is perfect for me.
I think i've watched you in Northampton last year sometime. Did you guys play at the GuitarFest just before Guthrie Govan??
