oh oh oh oh oh oh FINALLY got to play one today

WOW. what a niiiice guitar. It was the Tele

    Questions.

-Are the Strat re-issues the same necks as the Tele's?
-Are the re-issue necks the same as the originals?
-WHEN are they bringing out the re-issue strat with POINTY headstock?

    Thanks

I believe they did the pointys already a few years ago. You can find them used. They were met with mixed reviews. Some said they were great and others said they were not so great. I believe the tele and strats have the same neck. Not sure how they stack up to original charvel specs.

one reason was that there were problems with the clearcoat on the pointy headstocks, they lifted/bubbled on many of the guitars. others were put off that they only came with NOS trems, no floyds.
the guitar players look damaged - they've been outcasts all their lives

The necks on the standard tele and strat are the same. They are not dead on the original San Dimas strathead necks, but they are pretty close. The orignals were hand sanded so they vary from neck to neck. The pointys were re-issued a couple years ago. IMO those necks were almost dead on compared to the originals. They did not sell real well because so many had a v-trem and the v-trem is not so desirable on a pointy neck.

A while back I bought a used but mint shape black, one hum, Floyd Rose Pointy. I wasn't particularly thrilled with the plain black for a color but bought it because of how great it played and sounded. Wow! Just incredible! If you have a chance at one of these newer pointies I'd say at least try it out. If they are all anything like the one I picked up, these are incredible Charvels! And now the price is good on these in the used market. In fact I'm taking a chance on another one

Hey, when fender purchased Jackson/charvel in '03/04 time frame. All they did were pointy re-issues and people complained for s-heads. The first few years of fender ownership was fraught with quality control issues that turned more people off. Further, if you can stand a kalher trem, old pointies were availble on ebay for under $1k on average, while fender was looking to get a premium for new pointy charvels, so they were not great sellers for all those reasons (real and imagined).

When fender allowed s-heads, they discontinued pointys but they are still available custom shop (just like it used to be!).

I own two new ones with factory floyds (floyds on the new pontys were more common than people here suggest, most I saw came with floyds). From a playablity perspective, my new pointys are dead-on to the thinner pointy neck profile used back in the day (I owned some old ones for a direct comparisan, which I mostly sold after getting the new ones), minus the 20 yrs breaking in/playing time.

If you can find one for a good price and it does not have any issues (you want to check neck pocket alignment, string/pickup alignment, paint/clear cracks at the neck pocket, paint/clear issues with the headstock, correct deeper pointy case (alot of these got shipped in regular strat cases and the headstock touches the bottem of the case when it is closed - will snap the neck in shipping). Those are what comes to mine off the top of my head. BTW - when they got it right, they are stellar guitars, but buyer beware and check out the instrument thoroughly fi you can (get detailed pics of EVERYTHING if not in person) before buying IMHO. YMMV.

Sounds like they REALLY got the necks on the newer pointy head ones right because many of my original ones had bubbling in the clear coat on the headstocks.

So how customer service treat you on fixing those issues back then?
