  • SD Pointy Floyd Conversion

Well, even with the bridge locked down, I've been having too many tuning problems with this guitar (7061). So, on went a Schaller (JT-590) Floyd II (OFR's are not available in the UK and they are Schallers anyway). What a difference, it's now fantastic.......Bareknuckle Holy Diver in the bridge, she screams and now stays perfectly in tune!! The logo though, is fading fast....just like my Star and Red SD Pointy which is a real shame.

Cheers and a Happy Christmas to all!!

Looks like you did a nice job. I even like the chrome Floys and nut even though you left the machines black. Cool.

Thanks Scott. The only R3 Nut that I had around was chrome but I'm happy with the combination. Luckily, I've got all the right tools for the job which makes life easier. My only concern was the distance between the pivot post's and the pickup cavity. Only time will tell but i hope that it doesn't go the same way as the many Korean Washburn's that I've seen over the years!!

        Nice.

What's up with the logo "fading?" Is that what is meant by the common complaint that the clear lifts on these model's headstocks?

What trem was originally on this? An OFR?

The learcoat is lifting a little around the edges but, the actual logo is getting darker. This has happened on three of my Charvels so far. My '84 original, on the other hand is still fine.
The original bridge on this one was a NOS Brass vintage bridge.

Oh, yeah - you can't use those vintage bridges with a pointy - they go out of tune instantly.

I guess they had plenty of blue ones left over for use as the production series "limited" colors!

                  Both pointies look great!

I bought mine "used" recently. It was still in factory condition with hang tag, wrenches, even the original reciept in the case! These newer San Dimas Pointies are really killer guitars. In fact I have another one in black with one hum pickup and rosewood board. It also plays fantastic. My recommendation is to buy these if you can while they are fairly new but selling used for really good prices. In some cases you can score one for less than the current production Stratheads, which are great too btw

Agreed, these Pointies are awesome guitars. I've currently got 4 of this series. I also prefer a Pointy headstock over a Strathead. Rudy, I wish mine was a maple board, yours looks fantastic.

                      Cheers

Nice job on the floyd conversion - looks great. And Rudy, the electric blue with a maple board looks killer.
