3rd batch Charvels in the flesh! Pics

Never played the newer Charvels, are they that good or is it just the name? They just look like run of the mill guitars to go for that price.

hmmm how different is the pagan gold as to the candy tangerine? On the So-cals....they look damn close.

Ugly? Damn, I like them all. The candy purple is the best, by far. Too bad it's on the Tele, though. Pagan gold looks sweet on the SoCal. And Slime Green is such a classic, cool Charvel color.

I've got a Candy Green So Cal, and in my opinion they are nice guitars at about $750, maybe up to $850 at the most.

Just my opinion, but there is nothing that justifies charging $1000 or more for a solid body, solid color, bolt neck, guitar with Korean hardware that comes with a gig bag instead of a hard shell case.

Just my .02 on the matter based on my experience. There are others here that think they are a great deal for the price, but I can't see where they're coming from...

For $1100 or so, I may check out the Kramer USA reissues. I know nothing about them aside from the specs, but at least they come with a OFR and hard case for the same price (give or take $50 or so)...

Slime Green for me....it looks awesome!! I like the Purple but I'm not keen on the Tele shape.

Believe me, these Charvels BLOW AWAY the new Kramers. I bought an '85 Baretta reissue. The neck was skinny and cheap feeling, the intonation was terrible, playability was horrible. I wanted to love it so much--but I sold it in a week. It DId come with a nice case, and real Floyd. But the Charvel necks are awesome, playable, and overall feel just like the old 80's guitars! I had to take my Floyd off to make sure it didn't say Made in Germany on the bottom - to me it feels pretty much like an OFR so far.

Sure the price is a bit much at $1100. But these Charvels rock!

Based on my experience, I disagree completely. That $750-850 price point will get you an entirely Korean made BC Rich Gunslinger. To complain about hardware being made in Korea compared to the entire guitar and valuing them at the same price point seems a bit off to me. There is no comparable American built guitar with as prestigious a name on it in this price range, is there? Heck, my Warmoth and Musikraft builds always end up costing in this same price range.

What USA built guitars are we comparing these to in this price range? Honestly, I'm not trying to flame at all. There's just nothing else like these in this range. Yeah, I wish they were $750. I wish BMW M3's were $40k too but they're just not anymore.

Last time I checked I thought the Korean Gunslingers were going for around $500-600, but I could be wrong on that. If anyone is paying $750 or more for those, I don't know what to tell you...

There really aren't a lot of USA built guitars to compare these to. Maybe a Carvin bolt w/floyd or one of the USA Kramers. The Carvin would probably be a hundred or two less and the Kramers are close to the same price, but come with an OFR and hard case.

A lot depends on whether the $1099 is intended to be MAP or MSRP too. If it is MSRP, then that's fine since most places will knock 20-30% off of that (or whatever MAP is set by the manufacturer), which gets the price down to the right level. If $1099 is intended to be MAP, or the actually selling price, then that, TO ME, is too much for these guitars. I paid about $850 for my So Cal and if I had paid any more, it would've been going back.

It's all a matter of what it is worth to the individual. To me $1099 is too much for one of these, if $1099 works for you, then there's nothing wrong with that...

I believe it, I had one of the 'lesser' import Kramers when they first came out and wasn't impressed, even with pretty low expectations going in. Not likely I'd ever pay what they're asking for one of the USA Kramers anyway.

As far as the Charvel goes; I have no problem with the guitar. I just think the asking price of $1100, like you said, is a bit much...
