I hear ya. That's why I have a Soloist, and a Charvel. Best of both worlds.

Seeing the photo of all the guitars on the wall brings me back! Think about it. 10 years ago, there were NO signs of 80's type shred guitars. You couldn't give them away. Now, you have Charvel, Kramer back again, Jackson still going strong! What's old is new again, and I couldn't be happier!

To me, since I grew up with Kramer and Charvel, if a guitar isn't a cool color with aggressive pickups and a Floyd, it's not a guitar!!

Floyd Rose didnt sell out to Fender, he sold the marketing rights to them for a set number of years, just like he did with Kramer back in the 80s. then he set a new company "Floyd Rose Marketing" and that company was sold to Davitt and Hanser at the beginning of this year. thats the reason that all the mid line BCRich's have OFRs on them.

and they are the Korean ones.

Also, I believe that the Ping Floyds are Chinese, not Korean.... these are not Pings.. (but thats not been verified by Mike, i thought he did, but I cant find that post)

Well, it certainly seems that, regardless of what some of the consumers think, the retailers that sell these guitars are 100% certain they are worth the $1099.

After playing my new Charvel for a while I think the necks alone are worth $1,099!

they sell.. and are better than any other alternative in its price range..

I sell the BCRich, Schecter, guitars that are "comprable" the Charvel is USA made, and its a better guitar

Do they actually sell for $1099, or $999 before, or are people haggling to get them for less?

I got my So Cal Candy Green new for about $850 and definitely wouldn't have paid any more than that for what it is.

For that price, and for the specs, it should at least come with a hard case, and probably an OFR as well.

US Fenders sell at $999 and come with a very nice case, a similar spec'd Carvin could be had for less with Floyd and case, the US Kramers come with OFR and case for roughly the same price, etc.

I'm sure they're nicer than import BC Rich and Schecters, I wouldn't call them 'comparable' in the first place.

They're nice guitars, but in my opinion, not for $1099... YMMV.

And since you probably know, and no one else has answered when I've brought it up before....

Is the $1099 (or $999 before) supposed to be MAP or MSRP on these?

I have wondered myself and no one will answer this question! I'm betting it's MSRP and will believe that till someone that knows tells me different.

And if that's the case, it makes perfect sense. Knock the usual 25% or so off of that MSRP to get MAP and it is priced about right at around $800 or so. However, everyone seems to have them marked at $999 (or soon to be $1099), which leads me to believe we're supposed to think that is MAP...

I do feel they are a bit overpriced. For the price they charge, you should get a case, have more color options (sunburts, etc), and offer an option of fingerboard wood. Fender American made strats and teles have these features and they sell for under $1000.

                              Nick,
I tend to disagree about there not being anything comparable to the Charvel Pro Mod that is USA made

This one is OK for me but that is a issue I have with the trans purple jackson/charvel puts out. All of their purple guitars are either on the red side going from plum to pink. They need more of a blue tint.
