  • Jacskon Riff and Destroy

I don't remember seeing a thread about this so forgive me if it was already discussed. Anyhow, I found a video on YouTube on a Jackson Guitars competition they held at Sonisphere this year. Looked like a really cool competition. There more vids up there, here's the final round.

The Grand Final of the Jackson Riff and Destroy at Sonisphere 2009 is ON! Judged by some of the Bloodline's finest, Phil Demmel from Machine Head, John Campb...

The real question is. Is Scott Ian back with Jackson? New sig?

Yeah a lot of the riffs weren't great. I would have asked for a Death Angel. He did say any signature guitar model of choice, right? But I would of had to win the competition.

Not only did I laugh my ass off, he should have won...originality does count...but if he did win then next year it would be animal head central. Most of those guys were lame, no specific riff, just playing as fast as they could.

I enjoyed watching it. A lot of the riffs were built off of scale runs - very CoB, Nevermore sounding to me. I prefer (in my own playing) the old school power-chord heavy riffs.

I was thinking I would have joked around at that thing and started playing the riff to "I am the Law" because Nott Ian was there.
