J-Pop/Rock can be awful but there's also a lot of great stuff. The musicians are very good and the songs have great melodies. East-Asians have had a strong and unique melodic structure for long time so it's no wonder that their popular music is much more melodic than west's. It's a good influence on songwriting. If we talk about furious guitar playing then one of the latest guitar hit albums Erotic Cakes by Guthrie Govan has many songs with strong J-pop melodies and chord progressions... most notably "Waves" and "Ner Ner""There is nothing more fearful than imagination without taste" - Johann Wolfgang von Goethe
