  • Jackson JS30DKT to be stripped down

    Hi all,

I've just bought a Jackson JS30DKT. Although it was a cheap secondhand purchase it's turning out to be my perfect guitar. Kind of a mix between a Strat and a Les Paul.

I was wondering if anyone else has had one and changed the pickups. I'm looking to change them and was wondering if any could be recommended. Also, I want to strip the black paint down to the natural wood. Can anyone offer any advice on the best method and what varnish to use to protect it?

    Many thanks

    Jim

If the guitar is perfect, why change it? Just buy ANOTHER guitar in a natural finish
    Fuck ebay, fuck paypal

I doubt that model will look very nice stripped to natural wood. they are probably made from many pieces of wood and may even have a top coat of filler. I would leave it alone.
pickups are to your taste. what kind of music do you play?

He could always buy a JS20. They're available in natural finish, as is the DX10D if he wanted a floyd rose on it.

It has an indian cedro body. Who know what it will look like. That being said unless you can afford to replace if you mess it up I wouldn't strip it down cuz it can be put back on after you start stripping it.

On the pickup what styles of music do you play? There are several chaices out there by several pickup makers. I highly recommend replacing the pots if you stick with passive pickups. Those probably aren't the bast out there.

They are? Or did you mean because they are trans, that you could sand it?
I hooked up my accelerator pedal in my car to my brake lights. I hit the gas, people behind me stop, and I'm gone.

He wants a natural finish. Getting a guitar factory made with natural finish would negate the need to do any sanding.

I get that. You said he could get a J20. I was saying I don't think they come in that option. But I thought since they have trans finishes, you meant he could sand it. So what did you mean then?

Shit son. Didn't know that. Not on MF for example. Can a dealer order that? Or is it a thing of the past?

It is current, just not updated on Jackson's main site (when is it ever up to date? )

Yeah I knew that, but the MF is what threw me off. Now I want one of those with a DK2M neck off the bay.

JS20 body takes a 22 fret neck. You'll end up having to chop some wood. If you don't mind the veneer top and brighter colour, then get a DX10D in "natural" and bolt the DK2M neck to that.
