Re: Any plans for Maple Boards?

Ok, here's where I'm getting lost - a USA Charvel with an ebony board would be a Jackson Dinky with a Strat body (IF they went with a Strat body), so what's the difference between a pointy-headed Strat with a Charvel logo and ebony board and a Jackson DK-1?
Why would the Charvel need an ebony option? You want ebony, get the Jackson. They already have a similar neck profile, so somebody explain that one.

what's the deal with maple boards? I know the wood of the board makes a difference (although honestly, I can't hear the difference between ebony and rosewood, but that is because I have never compared 2 similar guitars with different fretboards).

I looks like **** to me, but who am I to say such a thing?

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Well, there could be a lot of reasons for that...

a) The Winter NAMM Charvels were not pointies, so this might not even be an option to begin with.

b) No binding & no sharkfins, which some of us prefer. Particularly Charvel diehards, as it is consistent with the originals.

c) The neck profiles are not similar. Certainly less similar than, say, a DK1 vs. SL1.

d) Arguably, ebony is more popular than rosewood or maple right now. (...debateable, yes.)

e) Heck, some people just plain prefer the Charvel name and logo to Jackson's.

...I'm sure there are others, too.

Whether it's got a Jackson or Charvel logo doesn't really matter to me, and I can adjust to different neck shapes. I really like the feel of a maple board (I like ebony and rosewood, too) and I think it would be cool to have the option on some newer models for a different look, slightly different feel.

P.S.- Yes, I still want maple fretboards, too! Just playing devil's advocate.

For the record, I was referring to the morons that blindly follow a musical trend just because it is percieved as "cool" or flavor of the month, nothing against those who actually create the music. I am just stating the mindless sheep mentality on the part of American youth is appalling...

Newc, you are right about the graphics issue, as long as it goes beyond the three or four styles you referred to in your initial post. I can see a 16 year old kid buying a Jackson with a Tide logo on it, but not one with a lightning bolt or a Heineken logo. That would be too much to ask...
