New to guitars

Got a guitar and don't know what I got.
Its a Charvel Jackson, -Serial #C7 (6digit series). Got three Pick-ups, three knobs, three switches. 9 volt battery. Neck thru the body, and the neck has what I think are shark teeth, similar to the design on the far left side of the forums.
Any and all info would be greatly appreciated. This, my first lesson in Guitar.

Sounds like you have yourself a 1987 Charvel Model 6! Made in Japan, active JE1200 midboost, MOP sharkfin inlays. Great guitars, very good quality, and if youre just learning guitar, you couldnt have picked a better instrument to learn on in my opinion.

Although I do not know exactly the benifit of the pick-p you mentioned, I did pick up on the MOP.
Now that I know that I have a decent guiter, if I don't do well it will be all my fault.
Do you have any suggestions as to what I should to start learning. Should I look for a DVD. If so what.

My son is learning a lot with the rockhouse videos from John McCarthy, I only get him every other weekend so he has to learn mostly on his own. His mom won't take him to the lessons even if I pay for them,so he is doing his own self teaching. But these videos are great for beginners, goes through the basic chords, scales, and an intro to theory.
