  • need help with Jackson preamps or active electronic identify

I am looking at a used jackson, and I think its an early 90's and its definately a "professional" model made in Japan. Whats the deal with the electronics in them?? are those real "active" pickups? or just regular passives with some type of a on board preamp thing like the USA fusion models have? there is no toggle switch like the fusion has, just 3 knobs (volume, tone, tone, I presume) . It appears to have a small circuit board attached to the volume pot from what I can see and it has the 9V battery cable too. it has jackson labeled pickups too.

Just like my Charvel 475 I think.
I think that has passives with some type of on board preamp boost.

what can you folks tell me?? I think they switched to actives with the reflex pickups in the USA models. I am not sure.

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks!!!!

It would have an active preamp. The pickups are not actives. If it has reflex pickups then they are active.
    It's pronounced soops

Might be the mid-boost circuit like my model 6 and 90's RR Professional.

        Most likely the JE-1200 (http://audiozone.dk/cm/displayimage.php?album=66&pos=12)
mid-boost circuit. More appropriate name would be a noise-booster; almost totally useless IMHO, but your mileage may vary.

Yeah I would have to agree with DR5Guy.

On an old amp without a lot of gain it will make a nice different but once you've cranked the distortion, just like the EMG SPC (EMG's mid boost) you will just add a ton of noise without really changing the tone much at all.

I had one on my Charvel 475. I was so excited about it. Then, I pretty much never used it, because it wasn't really that great.
