Maybe you should check out some older Charvel's. You can get a real good dela on them if you're searching in the right places.
Welcome to the forum, and welcome to guitar!

Edit: Just saw YOUR DK2(?), nice guitar!

I'm sure that would make a fine beginners guitar. Careful though...the more you learn, the more gas you're gonna get for more Jacksons!

So let me introduce myself...I'm Steve and I'm a Jackson-holic.

          Hello Steve.

I'm Mat, and I haven't bought a Jackson for nearly 6 months, and a Charvel for a year... Wait, that's nothing to be proud about

Congrats on your DK2. I think you got a terrific price. I bought my brother a "normal" DK2 for him to mess around with and almost ended up not giving it to him- And I own a few USA & old Pro series Jacksons. At the price I thought it was an AMAZING value for the dollar, and I paid about $300 if I recall correctly.

You did the right thing- You bought a "real" guitar with real parts and real wood. That will make your new hobby that much more satisfying. Nothing more discouraging than going through the learning process with an instrument that just fights you all the way.

Welcome aboard!!!! Any questions feel free to ask- people here are very helpful.

Thanks Vass. That was my goal. Get something I can grow in to, but not break the bank. I'm looking at a Vox DA amp to mate with it. I'm too old to "gig" and will be playing for the pure enjoyment of learning how. So I'll have roughly $300 into everything, which is close in price of those "starter packs". I just didn't want junk.

Last time i checked there wasn't a limit on that You can be too old to take up boxing or become a figure skating champion, but as long as you can play an instrument you are never too old to gig!

this could be true if you think of gigging with a fullstack.
I always hate it to move that shit around. once I reach a decent age I'll make sure to either have roadies or downsize my equipment to a level that actually fits my needs.

other than that I don't see a reason too one should be too old to gig.
take your time starting out and just give it a try if you can find a couple of musicians you like. it's fun!

and welcome aboard btw!! nice first guitar and nice forum entry!
you found the search button on your own! how cool is that?!
                            have a good time here!

I hooked up my accelerator pedal in my car to my brake lights. I hit the gas, people behind me stop, and I'm gone.
