  • pickup volume missmatch.........

what are good replacement pickups for my USA DK1, i love the duncan JB in the bridge but when i switch to the midle or neck pickus (duncan singles) the volume drops considerably, to the point of not usable!
is there a pickup (single space) that matches well outputwise to the JB humbucker?
    opinions?
    thanks!

The JB is such a hot p/u that any true single will not match it's volume, but I'm using Seymour Duncan SSL4's (the ones with bit fat polepieces) alongside a Guitarforce Erupter bridge humbucker in my Ontario Soloist (which has parallel mid and neck pu routs, luckily the SSL4 is one of the few pups which fit!) and they're a good match.

hot or cool rails , but they wont give you true single coil sound.

I know DiMarzio make a variety of hotter humbucking singles, many of which have the output of humbuckers but designed for a single-coil like sound. Keep in mind the output and EQ will be way different from a normal strat pickup so it won't sound as chimey or sparkly when clean but it won't sound like a humbucker. Maybe try a Virtual Vintage Heavy Blues 2 or a Virtual Solo? If not they have lots of rail-type humbuckers that sound pretty good and close to the ones they're trying to emulate. I really like the Air Norton S in the neck position. I've got a Chopper in the neck of my old RG and I like it a lot. And it balances well with the Evo 2 I have in the bridge, which is a hotter pickup for sure.

Duncan Hot Stacks have a chimey quality.

Have you tried raising the single coils a bit higher and/or dropping the JB to see if it makes a difference? Seldom do factories balance the pickups.

+1. The volume difference can be sorted.
Dave Murray manages with a genuine single coil and humbuckers.

And a Compressor might help, but you gotta kick it in for the cleans on the singles and off for the crunchies on the bridge.
