  • What is this?

I just found this forum the other day and am trying to soak up as much info as I can but I seem to be coming up short. I'm trying to ID a potential purchase. The pics and background info are minimal.

According to the seller it's an early '80s, possibly '84, bolt-on with nothing written on the headstock. The only identifying logos are the Jackson pickup covers. He states he can't find a serial number.

I've been looking at the gallery here and back catalogs on the Jackson site. The body shape dosen't appear to be close to anything I've seen in any pics.

I'm trying to decide if it's worth the 45 minute drive to check this thing out. I've been very happy with my mid-eighties Charvel but would love to add a Jackson. Sorry for the sketchy info but any help would be appreciated.

    Great forum!

IMO the body & headstock shape and the inlays = NOT a Jackson. Looks like a cheap fake to me! Avoid.

Also I don't think there were any bolt-on Jacksons in 1984.

+2 The only thing that looks to be Jackson is the single pickups.

That trem is an ESP Flicker. http://www.vintagekramer.com/flicker.htm
The bridge pup looks like a Duncan Trembucker.
          Those aren't cheap junk.

Could be an early to mid 80s Kramer or ESP body, or a total parts mutt.

Can you get "good" pics of the front & back of the body?
May be able to tell more with pics of rear cav shape & neck plate.

Don't bother. The only thing Jackson about that thing are the singlecoil pickups. Look at the neck; it has 21 frets, and the end of the fretboard is rounded off = NOT Jackson.

I passed. Thanks for all the input. I wasn't looking for another guitar but the ad caught my eye. A Jackson for $150?! No way! Well, I guess it's true. No way.

But my research led me here, and this place is cool. I've re-aquainted myself with my Charvel and that's a good thing.

Indeed. The Duncan Parallel Axis Trembuckers are awesome, either the original, Distortion or Blues Saraceno.

I've started a thread on it over in the Charvel Import forum. Pics and all.

If that body is an old Kramer or ESP with a Trembucker & Flicker its worth more than $150. With the right neck, a whole lot more $$$.

                      Cant tell with those pics.
