...into which I can fit a huge ass Jackson case (guitar will be inside)? Also when I ship, is there anything special I want to do; or will having the guitar in the case and the case in the box be sufficient?

Sometimes bicycle stores have good guitar-sized boxes, or at least something you can modify. As for packing, the critical thing with a pointy is to make sure the guitar can't move inside the case, and most importantly that the headstock can't contact the end or the bottom of the case if it gets dropped. If it shifts at all, pack around the body with bubble wrap, rags, etc. until it can't. Between the case & the box, what I do is get some 1/2" styrofoam sheet insulation at Home Depot and use it to take up the space all the way around, and especially at the ends. It's about $12 for a 4 x 8 sheet that can do 2 or 3 guitars. If you don't want to do that, at least stuff the box with something so the case isn't rattling around in there.

As long as the guitar fits snugly inside the case (i.e no movement at all) you should be fine just putting the case inside of a box. If it moves, stuff around the body so it can't and pad around the case inside of the box. The goal is to drop the box and have nothing inside moving. If you're worried, you can have UPS pack it for you. That way if it is damaged in shipping it's their fault and not yours. I always do this. It costs about $30 extra, but I know that they've packed it to their standards.Scott

Also look for a mattress box. I got a guitar in a case inside a mattress box for a child's bed once. Perfect fit.I want to depart this world the same way I arrived; screaming and covered in someone else's blood

Detune the string s more than a half step. you want the strings slacked in case the guitar takes a hit for some reason . The headstock needs to vibrate to expel that energy or it will snap. GC or sam ash are the best bets for a box that big. Or maybe liek best buy for a box from a really big flat screen.

Also, DON'T pad around the headstock. As mentioned previously, if the guitar moves in the case, pack the body so it doesn't. Leave the headstock alone.

Any local music store should have something. I got a couple from the mom and pop place close by...they're just recycling them anyways."Some days you're the dog, other days you're the hydrant." - on the back of the business card for Bella the Pomeranian
