Its a bit depressing but Ill have it all sorted out without the help of Jackson ( my choice on that)

1st thing i noticed after realizing its truly a beautiful guitar & that the case theyre using for RR's now i9s a half assed king V case was all the filings from the fret filing (not even crowned after leveling) loaded up all over the fingerboard...maybe they figured it kinda adds to the sparkle theme lol. Second was it still needed massive filing to be playable between the 7th & 15th frets. Before undertaking that I discovered the truss rod already completely loose. Then was the minor dertails of a small crack in the clear near the lower point & a nice chunk of clear missing from where the base of the floyd arm was interfering with the route in the body. In short the fret dress & neck issues make this the absolute worst Jackson Ive ever seen out of the box.

Also, what passes for an original Floyd is pretty sloppy compared to a 80's piece.. poorly cut threads for the fine tuners in mine are causing some tuning instability on 3 strings..

On the bright side.. i did immediately realize when playing in the first few positions this guitar has a really nice sound & would be fun to play without the issues. I replaced the bridge pickup ( a JB) with an old duncan distortion, filed & leveled the hell outta it & got rid of about 90% of the dead spots, although the action still has to be much higher than any other guitar i own & already used it on a gig Friday & will be using it at Webster Hall again tomorrow.. After my next round of shows which ends on april 10th Im going to leave it with my guy for awhile & have it completely refretted.. Ironically, I bought another RR because my JCF 01 isant too far away from needing a refret.. as fate would have it, the new guitar is gettin it first... I'm over being extremely pissed about it.. but I can say it is highly unlikely I'll ever buy another new Jackson again. Im embarassed for them.. & I highly doubt Mike Shannon ever saw these guitars before signing the back of the headstock

Ive also discovered they had to scrap one of the 1st 10 of these due to being "unshippable from manufacturing errors" .. they probably shoulda shitcanned at least 2 lol

well thats great, didnt you get it thru Matts? Will they help you (or whoever it is you got it from) cover the costs of repairs ?
Wow, I will have Wild West check mine over before they ship it to me.
Not cool to pay that kinda $ and not have a ready to play guitar if you ask me.

Im beginning to believe if ya want a guitar that needs nothing ya gotta spend LESS than $500 lol Matt was more than willing to get it back to Jackson for me & make it their problem. If it was something that was readily available I would have stuck it back in the box less than 2 minutes after opening it, shipped it back & insisted on getting a different one.

I have no intention of shipping it & leaving it in the hands of fedex or whoever.. & then only to end up in the hands of the people who screwed it up in the first place. I also dont think Jackson deserves a second chance.. IMO, releasing any guitar, nevermind one in this price range with a completely loosened truss rod, a floyd route that didnt allow the bridge to move freely & these playability issues or even just the sloppyness of leaving all the powdered metal from filing frets in the fretboard is totally inexcuseable. I've abandoned any plans I had on ordering a custom RR..or any other new Jackson. I intended on having what would essentially be the equalivent of a Ferarri Red JCF 01 with 1 pickup built.. but I just cant see myself giving them another dollar.

I cant help but think they figured they'd let it skate by in the hopes of whoever bought it would hang it on a wall & only stare at it.

Oh.. I also forgot about the 3 nut shims that were in there.. which I replaced with a single shim of the correct thickness.

I would love to find the person that signed the "neck dress" box of the inspection tag...

I gotta give credit where its due... the intonation was pretty much set perfectly

Damn sorry to hear about your guitar J_A...it really is quite a dissapointment isn't it? I just had a similar issue. I also decided to get my money back (well store credit) for the exact same reason. Not prepared to take the hit financially and depend on the company who screwed it up in the first place to fix the problem.

My guitar actually had 4 nut shims...and they obviously just threw them in there in an attempt to do....im not sure, because the shims pretty much did nothing since the neck was glued in at the wrong angle

oblivion, was yours also one of these gold "1st 5" models??

wow this is not cool, I will be really unhappy if mines not perfect. I dont mind buying a fixer upper or project guitar once in a while, but only when I score them really cheap- not at retail! I just spoke with Bob at Wild West and he said they will check mine out and set it up once it arrives and make sure its in fine shape. But he think its going to be at least another month out. So now I can worry about it until then!

Sorry. Nothing of the sort with mine. Only noticed that the neck binding/ Paint' joint is not completely even on the top edge but bottom is perfect. Guess this Paint' scheme is harder to control. Even on bottom. Go figure. Guess I bought for nostalgia because my Tom Anderson's are impeccable. I keep going back to my chilhood and I guess they realize this. Guess I lucked out.

Mine was a custom 7 string soloist from NAMM, one of a kind. Similar in price to the 5s, if not a bit more expensive.

No need to worry about it really. If yours comes and is good enough for you all will be will, and if not you can just return it for your money back hopefully. Just make sure that you carefully inspect it when it comes in.
