  • Some help with this please.

I ran across a 92-92 charvel cx391, And you really cant find any information about it honestly, like how to decode the serial or find an basic info at all.

Its has a dumb paint job, but i plan on refinishing it.

As soon as i figure out how to add picks I will.

So basically I really just want some info, maybe what there worth.

the cx series was above the charvettes but still a lower line charvel...one sold at elderly for roughly 185 and it was in great shape...so it's not a high dollar guitar...refinish away...d.m.

Well it is going to cost me 100 bucks if I want it, But i wasnt looking for a pricey guitar i have those with the ones i have now, 1979 "the paul", 1979 peavey t-60, 1984 gibson studio.

But how do they play ? is there a way to decode the serial ?

There's really nothing much to decode in import Charvel serial numbers. Some guys have tried to do a rough chronology, but I don't think that has amounted to much yet as far as figuring out exactly what numbers started or ended which years. Best thing to do is look at old catalog scans for the specs and just be happy with date ranges for the models. Here's your guitar in the '93 catalog:

Again, why do you need to know the exact date? Especially if it's $100 ?
