Re: Idea: The JCF should publish a book!

A book needs to be done for most 80's popular guitars. BC rich, Kramer,JAckson/Charvel. etc..
Maybe seperate ones for each or a compilation book: although that would be a huge book to include all of them. Theres' the Gruhn uide for vintage Fender, Gibson, Gretsch, and Martin. But there is nothing for Jackson Charvel. Something needs to be done so people can get the knowledge they need to apreciate the instruments they have or are interested in. The blue books are no help very few pictures and even some of the descriptions are off. Somebody nees to follow thru on this idea.

Re: Idea: The JCF should publish a book!

I'd love to, and since I am a working (imagine that!) writer (newspaper), and a published author (American Motorsports - The Definitive Illustrated Guide, Edited by Dave Phillips (Senior Editor of Indy Car Magazine) ISBN 1-85868-256-8 (I wrote the 'Off-Road Motorsports' section), I am sure I could do it given the historical and resource assistance such an undertaking would require ...Hint, hint McD.

The problem in getting such a work published is that outside a few hundred hardcore fans, the book doesn't have broad appeal - though it could be made to, moreso, if given a historical spin rather than sheer tech.
A long-time aquaintance of mine, Rick Sieman, the man who started Dirt Bike Magazine (yes, that "Dirt Bike Magazine") had to self finance his first book, despite a built-in audience numbering in the tens of thousands from his days at the mag.

I'll step up to the plate and do the writing. I'll do the research with help from you all and the assistance of Fender/Jackson. But the bottom line is that it takes deep pockets and/or really good connections to make a good book happen.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Absolutely. I'm not talking about just a techie-type book, or a "how-to" book. I'm talking about also giving insight as to why some people prefer jumbo frets, why does everyone love the balance of a Warrior, the advantages of freshly polished frets, and so on.

I think this book should cover the entire gamut, and also have a section about the JCF itself.

Hmmm, with McD's chiming in, I guess Sully really did fart.

Then again, I never doubted that...
