Didn't say I didn't like to be told to lighten up. (even though I don't, but I expected someone to say it) I didn't even say you couldn't make light of it. I just expressed my opinion.

That said, I will NEVER lighten up on the topic of rape nor see any reason for using it in humor. Living with a survivor of it, I know how un-funny the word, just as much as the action itself, is. It hits too close to home.

You didn't have to say you didn't like it, it's obvious enough, man. So, If this kind of thing offends you, and I understand why it does, why not simply avoid it?

I had avoided it for quite a while. It's part of the reason that Mat is on my blocked list. But it is hard to ignore when you log into the JCF after quite a while and it's the very first post you see. I decided that I had seen enough of the term and decided to voice my opinion.

And THAT is part of the problem. I know I may not be able to affect large-scale change by posting my opinion on a guitar forum in a thread about a goofy graphic, but we all pick our own battles. After ignoring it for quite a while I just decided to state my opinion on it. If it makes someone else think twice about just throwing the term out there as a throwaway then maybe I've done some good. But ultimately I am disappointed in what this forum has degraded into over the last couple of years.

I'll have to speak to my wife about her use of the term. She had been affected by this when she was much younger, not long before we met. She still has moments about it, when she thinks back to the occasion. She has blown up at me before for casually using the word. Although that doesn't stop her from coming home from work to state "man, we got totally ass-raped today"

In what other ways as the degradation of this forum disappointed you, Todd? Surely it's not all on this thread which is only a few pages long.

Well, you tried. I don't understand what you're disappointed about, but as I said, you can't really expect everyone to share your level of sensitivity on the subject.

Surely giving such credence to a word only gives the power back to the person commiting the act? Ridiculing the word shows the absurdity of the act and idiocy of those that try and do commit it, thus giving the power back to the vicitms.

Much in the same way that Women have been attempting reclaim 'slut' recently.
