Can Some1 here tell me the type of finish of the maple fretboard ; so that i decide what type of cleaner 2 use??
and if anyone had a successful cleaning process,,, please advice,, since my last post i'm still confused and cant clean my neck !!!!!!!!!!1 Thanks

The finish is "gun stock oil" which isn't really an oil finish at all.

For all practical purposes you can treat it more or less like polyurethane. You don't want to get acetone or any kind of harsh chemical near it but you CAN use some naphtha (lighter fluid) on a rag, I like to use something terry cloth like an old towel, those little loops get the grunge out from next to the frets.

I realized I posted that before, I'm not sure why you are confused. :think:

Use some naphtha to clean your fret board.

Put it on a towel, then clean your fretboard with the towel.

When you are done, throw the towel away, because it could catch on fire. Put it in a plastic bag and throw it in the trash.

LOOL....I'm Just a bit taken off buy using lighter fluid on my baby's Fingerboard,,,and even more that i'm sure that it will smell like shit afterward,,,and please MakeJazenoiser: are you sure that its gun stock oil,, Cause as far as i can see,, it seems that my maple fingerboard dosent have any kind of finish on it.
One Last thing,,What if i used Old English (lemon or hazelnut or whatever...) sorry for the hassle guys!!

Naphtha leaves no smell once it evaporates, and is a safe cleaner. I use it on lacquer all the time.

The "magic" of the Tru Oil/gun stock oil finish is that it feels like raw wood. It's not, though.

Write to Jackson and ask them, if you don't believe me. Whatever they tell you will be fine. I use naphtha on my Charvels with gun stock oil finished fretboards, it works great, they look like new.

Pledge? No. No fucking way I'd get that anywhere near a guitar, or a guitar anywhere near that luthier.

Just use Old English lemon oil or naptha and be done with it... doesn't matter if there's a finish on it or not, the maple will be fine.

Sorry Guys,,, Just one more thing,, when we are talking about the old English lemon oil,, you mean that transparent yellow bottle,, not the metal BROWN can one...that's sometimes being referred to as AEROSOL

Do they sell Naphtha in Egypt? Zippo brand liquid lighter fluid? Ronsonol brand liquid lighter fluid, for wick type lighters?

Go buy that. Use it. Sheesh. It really doesn't have to be this hard.

That'll be fine. I really wouldn't use the aeorosol stuff, but it should be okay on maple. It wouldn't really harm it, but I've used stuff like that on rosewood boards in the past, and it leaves a white residue in the pours of the wood that takes awhile to come out. Your best bet is to just get the lighter fluid then.
