    Hi!! Total newbie here...

I'm a learning bassist that also wants to jump into guitars. I'm looking at a few low end Jacks...JS22 & 23...I hear tons of good about the Jacksons to begin with so I thought I'd look in on these. These are upgradeable if I chose to do so later? Seems there's Floyds on ebay cheap, new & complete. I know low ends are cheap, I'm only looking to learn...later if I dig the guitar playing as much as bass, I'll work on getting a better one ...for now, this is what I'm looking for.

Is it true Jacksons & Charvels are (or were) being built at Fender? (5 min from my house lol)

What do you plan on spending on these models? GC has used gear listed on their site and I would recommend buying a DK2 or DR3 as a starter guitar for around $200 USD. An upgrade on a non-floyded trem guitar would include installing a locking nut so it might not be worth it if you can't do it yourself.

      +1 ^^

upgrades from a js would be better neck, electronics, and trem.

      yes fender now owns Jackson.
and yes its Jacksons not Jacks. Ever.

        2-250 I plan to spend...
My teacher does repairs and such, so upgrading isn't much of an issue, as long as it's possible.
As for used gear, yeah, I learned the hard way. I think I'll go that route again. My first bass was a POS, turned it back & replaced with another like it...POS...so I was lucky and there was a 9 year old Warwick on a stand...it's mine now lol...

Its gonna cost you a hell of a lot more than 250$. And only since 2002 has Fender been making USA Jacksons and Charvels, so those models usually still fetch a really good price. For 250$ you could probably get some nice bolt on Japanese models. They are great for the money, a hell of a lot more than the js series and x series for sure. Anyways good luck on your search.

ok maybe not a US model lol

i'd be happy with anything really, after all the positive things I've read about Jackson in general, it seemed like a decent starter. i dont want to throw too much $$ into it in case it isn't my thing.

I'd scope the shops for used models from the early to mid 90s. They will say "Professional Series" on the headstock, and are very well made guitars. The JS series today...not so much.

I saw a professional on ebay...bid was already too high but it's ok.

I got some insight from a pro-player friend, and he gave approval on the DK2 I liked, I'm just going to keep saving up the nickels & dimes and eventually pick one up.

No worries, I do appreciate everyone's comments & such :-) I figure hell, there's no rush cos I'm working on bass right now...i should get something that'll stand up and play well, I got time.

Buy what you want, but if I had $700 to spend on a DK2 I would buy a Jackson Professional instead. They're about $500 and compare well to USA soloists in terms of materials. A member here sold one for $500 a few weeks ago. This site can be a good place to buy a used guitar, too.
