Wiring in a 500K or 250K tone pot (even if you just turn it up all the way and shove it in the control cavity) WILL change the tone vs. just a volume - and it will warm it up.

If you want to see what it does, just wire it in and wrap it in a piece of cloth or something and put it in the control cavity. No hole needed...

Wiring in a tone knob will totally change the sound, and IMO, for the better.

        Hi again,

I installed the ToneZone and as first impressions I like it. It gave body to the sound of San Dimas and it is balanced. Coil tapped sound is quite useful too. I'll pair it with Alnico II pro in the neck. Last night first I tried Custom Custom in the neck and it is a bit hot for neck (but for real hard music it could be nice for screaming solos). I want experiment 250K pot and fake tone things anyway. Maybe I'll like more...
        Thank you all...

          Good deal!

I would recommend you try the 250K "fake tone" first with the 500K volume. It makes even a JB sound fairly dark so I think if you do both of them 250K it will be too muddy, but then again we all like different things.

Well, actually it does have a marked effect on tone. The difference between an OFR and a licensed version with cast baseplate and hardened inserts is huge (much softer tone from the cast baseplate floyd vs the original with hardened baseplate). That said, if both guitars have OFR's, or trems of similar design, that's probably not it.

Keep in mind that seemingly identical guitars will not always sound the same. Slight differences in bodywood, neckwood, pickup windings, strings all play a role I guess. Did you try playing around with the amp settings? Makes a huge difference (which can be a pain if you're playing a couple of different guitars as the settings could give great tone for one guitar and horrible noise for the other). Also, note that my current opinion is that more versatility is available in your hands, amp settings and effect pedals than in your pickups.

Charvel needs to put practical truss rod adjustments on their line. taking the neck off to adjust the truss rod is just stupid.
