  • Charvel/Jackson annoying single coil pickup route

Hi guys i have a 89 charvel fusion custom, My problem is the single coil route does not support dimarzio style single coils with the flange being to big at the base, I also have noticed even the SD hotrail shn does not fit, despite having no flange.

The stock j200r dual rail pickups are horrible IMO.

I know you can custom order flangless dimarzio's but are there any other decent pups that may fit? i know there must be a lot of other people with Jackson and charvels with the same problem,

I am considering routing mine out to fit dimarzio singles, (AT RISK OF A CHIP) I cant live without a nice neck pickup. Its ruining my charvel,

This has been covered here quite a bit, but if you're a DiMarzio guy, the easy solution is to order a lipless version of the pickup you want. It doesn't cost as much as a true custom order, and I've heard it only takes a couple of weeks. You can also modify a lipped pickup pretty easily following the tutorial in this old thread:

As for the new Duncan Hot Rails, Cool Rails, etc. with the stiff insulated wire bundle coming out in the middle of the pickup, what I did is make a small undercut in the pickup cavity with a Dremel tool to give the wire a little room to bend. It fits great, and you can't see the mod at all with the pickup installed.

Hey thanks for showing me that, I already used my sd in another guitar i have so i will have to try your trick with the dremel, Still might just route it out as i have no plans to ever sell it,

      kind regards

IYO. Right now I'm searching for a pair of J200R's because I think they are great.

I am replacing my J200s as I removed the preamp (very crackley pot). I had to buy some generic rail pickups from abroad (France, and I am in England) to put in my Model 6 instead of them. ONly eBay seller I could find who had 'em with not flange. I will see how they sound.

Say what you will but I think I can get a hot rail Maiden tone out of them.
