    @Mark rate please
and for your dinky - 8.5/10 (i'm assuming it comes out WAY cooler than your mock-up, i'd like very much to see the crop circle inlay work out. also, did you intend the headstock to be trans orange or natural? i think it'd be sick with a matching hs but it's your guitar, dude )

@Mazz yeah, poplar isn't my favorite as far as tone, and it's not very stable construction-wise so as an aggressive player it wouldn't be practical to play live, at least for me.

and thanks for the 10, i knew someone had to appreciate my nerdy ideas

You're kidding, right? Poplar sounds similar to alder and is very stable. A lot of the old Jacksons and Charvels were made of poplar, so were a lot of Carvins.

maybe i just haven't played any guitars with good poplar... but none of them that i tried sounded great to me. and i've heard a lot about poplar chipping easily and changing dynamically as far as tone in fluctuating humidity. But you probably have more experience than i do, so i won't encroach.

and that sure is a DAMN fine lookin' star there.. 10/10, no question

Poplar is a little on the soft side (and can be a bit heavy at times), but I still think it's harder than basswood which is used on many guitars. A lot of the old bolt-on Charvel Models series were basswood, and the neck-thru models were poplar. I'm not really a fan of basswood, but it works for some people, I guess the same way some people don't care for poplar.
I believe some old Fenders were also made of poplar besides the normal ash or alder.

Thanks! I've had a thing for goldtops for awhile and did that up in the generator a couple years ago. I miss my old Charvel Star and have been thinking about a Custom Shop for awhile. Gotta get me my Carvin 7-string first and then we'll see...

My buddy Ken who was a member here ordered the Custom red marblizer Death Warrior. It was really cool in person, and it was actually made of poplar!

yeah, i knew the old charvels and fenders were made with poplar, and i've played some old fenders that others loved but i still couldn't feel too well. I guess that's the beauty of the art of guitar making: there are no "bests" or worsts", it's all based on what the individual loves.

Thanks! I've had a thing for goldtops for awhile and did that up in the generator a couple years ago. I miss my old Charvel Star and have been thinking about a Custom Shop for awhile
you're welcome, dude! and by the by, it's ironic that this one hit me so hard, considering goldtops, zebra pups, and star shapes are all VERY conditional, hit-or-miss features with me. you just struck the right chord on that one (probably a major 7 variation, those kick my ass ).

That sounds awesome. I'll give it a 9/10 because I don't care for black matte satin finishes. I do like satin finishes in different colors, but I'm not crazy about the satin black for some reason.

Thanks man Funny story about that idea, actually. I call it a death warrior but it has a few variations i drew up with the original sketch that involve the back fins that push it a little further out of the range of being a "death warrior" per se (i wasn't planning on taking the liberty of explaining on here but maybe i'll take a webcam picture of my sketch and post it if you guys would like to see it). And yeah not everybody digs the matte, but i thought it'd add to the brushed-nickel black-and grey theme of the guitar. I also was going to post a differently-themed version of this idea that i thought up with a cream-gold-pinstripe theme (think rhoads concorde) but i sort of have a problem with talking too much so i thought i'd cut it out. Btw, that's a badass marblizer, but pictures don't do that beautiful finish any justice

                          Ratings:

                          MAZZ:

Rhoads Santana - 8/10 (took off 1 point for black binding and 1 for the extreme headstock)
Jackson DC - 9/10 (Block Logo doesn't do it for me)
Death Kelly - 10/10 Black and Red Rising Sun, now that sounds cool!

                          NAGASH02:

Custom 24-fret Rhoads - 8/10 (the blue LEDs kill it for me)
Custom Kelly - 7/10 (not too custom, wouldn't be worth the upcharge)
The totally awesome Baritone Dinky - 6/10 (cool, but points off for bolt on and not too sure how a Trans purple Black Burst would look? Stabbed poo comes to mind)
The Ultimate Vinnie Vincent tribute Guitar - 5/10 (I like Vinnie, but this guitar I could take or leave)

                          MISANTHROPE[ALWT]:

Both guitars are over the top and some might say TOO MUCH, lol but I love both ideas 10/10 for both. well maybe not such a big thundercats logo, but I like em.

                          MARKD:

Custom Dinky - 10/10 (Now this is what a custom is supposed to be!!!!! Are you paying attention Jackson R&D?)

                          TOEJAM:

Custom Gold Star - 10/10 (Joe has good taste....nuff said)

I have 2 poplar Jacksons. My KVPro Mustaine is indeed Poplar and weighs quite a bit more than my KV2 which is alder, and my 86 soloist is also poplar and weighs a TON! The sound is very similar to my alder guitars but seem just a little tighter in tone. But overall they are EXTREMELY close to their alder counterparts. As for poplar being soft, my soloist got gigged a lot and I've had it since I was 16 years old (I'll be 41 in april) and there are no dents or divots anywhere on it.

Misanthrope, your Death Warrior is so much WIN I start to want one myself ^^. 10/10

Toejam, nice Star but I'll NEVER like zebra's. 8/10

How come noone likes my pink Rhoads ? is it the color ? Cause IMO if you're onstage, banging your head around, playing some death metal stuff in dropped C with a pink guitar, you're just awesome ^^

I've seen very nice ideas so far, but Misanthropes Death Warrior is just too much win.

Well thanks for the enthusiasm man! I had a feeling it'd be a hit or miss thing, as i made a few tweaks out of left-field (e.g. nickel logo inlay, flush mount strap locks, adjusted body shape), but you guys seem to like it Even MORE motivation to hurry up and get signed and sponsored before i graduate high school so i can have my baby for a little less than $5K and before i'm 30

But on a more observational level, i think it's the "fuck yeah he's actually doing that" factor that would make the pink rhoads any cooler. Like, if Pat O'Brien came out onstage and started playing the opening to "Frantic Disembowelment" on a purple hannah montana guitar with sparkles I think anyone who ever doubted him would personally take the liberty of literally eating his own heart out as he stood in the crowd.
Then, CC would write a song about it
