Re: so does that mean??

Not to take away from DMs' and Fender's efforts, which should be applauded ( ), but I'm confused.

They've already nailed the SD Charvel neck profile on the Bullseye Reissues. Well, at least for pointy heads, that is. And, well, heck, they nailed pretty much everything else about the old pointies there, too. Everything that's really truly important, at least. I'm guessing most of this work happened pre-Fender, but it can't be "lost" already. ...Can it? Or maybe DM's showing them stratheads? In which case: what's the point, unless they'll make them again?

I'm sure I'm being an "ignorant slut" here , but someone please pull me out from the rock I must've been under.

Re: so does that mean??

your guess in what i'm taking is very astute...the neck profiles on my sd's are very different from the pointies (of which i've owned over 15)...just because they cannot make stratheads again doesnt mean that they can't replicate the feel of one, and they do feel different...d.m.

and i would never insinuate that you or anyone else on this board is an "ignorant slut"... so don't put yourself down that way, cool?...d.m.

Re: so does that mean??

Ahhhh. OK. I get it. It was so obvious. Right in front of me. But, then again, I'm an ignorant slut, so please excuse my slowness.

And, yes of course, it would be more "true" if pointy heads and non-Ps did not have the same profile. But then again, many of the SD-era diehards won't buy them - however authentic otherwise - if they don't have that most importantly original element: the headstock shape. ...So, why even bother trying to pleasing the authenticity nuts in the other areas?

Footnote: Mind you, many people would probably include me with the authenticity group, as well. I would admit this is mostly true. However, since I occassionally "tolerate" modern features on some of my guitars, others might prefer to throw me out, too.

P.S- Obviously just joking about the "ignorant slut" thing, DM. Just a classic SNL reference.

P.S.S.- It just occured to me that some might misinterpret that "authenticity nuts" reference as an insult directed towards some in the diehard SD Charvel crowd. That was not intended, nor what I meant. My apologies if I just unintentionally offended anyone.

I see bad things - rear-loaded single hum Floyded Stratheads with ebony and maple boards (and maybe a coupla Jake models) with the correct San Dimas Srathead profile - and a Fender logo

What the hell is that?!? I've never seen that before. I think I'm in love... three-pup Strathead! Are there any other switches for the pups, or is the toggle switch just for each pup on by itself?
And is there even a volume control on it? I don't see one, unlesss it's too dark to tell.

Re: so does that mean??

i gotta admit...i'm a strat head freak too...but a lot of that is because of how they play...wouldn't it be cool to have that original style neck even if it has a pointy headstock?...i remember people just raving over the feel of these necks (greg howe was one of them in an old guitar world interview) and i think this would be a great opportunity for people who've never felt one to have the opportunity to buy one (or at least try one out)...the shape of the headstock (as long as it is aesthetically pleasing) shouldn't matter so much...it's definitely the feel...and it's almost impossible to describe it if you've never played one...d.m.

and to newc...

she has been modified (before i got her)...regular 3 way for the bridge and neck, mini toggle added for the middle hum on/off...but i disconnected the middle hum cos i never use it... glad you like her...let's hope McD does as well...d.m.

oh yeah...the volume is close to the bridge humbucker but it's black and in a black part of the crackle...so...hard to see...
