There are a few variations, but no straight up sl3. There is an SLSMG which is basically a sls3 with emg's so I don't really see the loss here.

Are we talking about the newer SL3MG guitars or the regular old SL3? I highly doubt theyll stop making the SL3MG considering its a new model.

The first post asks about the SL3. The Jackson website no longer shows it listed.

Bah then who cares. Who wants a neckthru guitar without binding anyway?

                    Define "reasonable"

                      :much needed flame suit on:

Honestly, stock Jackson's are becoming stale IMHO. They seem to be wayyyyy to focused on signature, sponsored models than just plain old cool guitars. I would not think of buying a stock Jackson these days, only custom shop. And I hate the fact that they make low-end models and models without real Floyds. It's like Ferrari making a 20K car, they should stick to professional guitars. The market is full lower cost / quality Jackson.

Many people are happy with the low-end Floyds. I'm glad they finally did go to a full-sized route on mose tremmed models so you can decide whether you want the OFR or the Schaller/JT590. Before, you were stuck with the Schaller, which was/is more expensive than an OFR.

As for the models, every brand that has an endorsee has a sig model. Jackson knows their endorsee's fanbase generally cannot afford $2100+ for a USA Select sig model, so they put them in the affordable Pro line (Morton, Demmel, C.O.W., etc). There's only so many Dinky variations you can reasonably do, though it would be nice to see them offered in 2-hum and H-S-S with both maple and rosewood boards for each configuration. I wouldn't buy another Dinky as the body just doesn't feel right for me, but it would be nice to offer more variety in that model.
It'd also be nice if they got more colors for the imports than black, that tired-ass metallic/cobalt/midnight blue they apparently have a patent on (or a shitload of it in tanker trucks out back), and those whacked-out swirly jobs. EDS was played out, and Green Swirl looks like a half-assed Comet cleansing to me.

There's no harm in offering beginner-level guitars to compete with Epiphony and Fender's Squire line. That's how you build brand loyalty. If a LoG or C.O.W. or whatever Demmel plays with teenage fan is looking to blow his hard-earned lawnmowing money on a guitar, let him be able to buy one like his idol has. That's why Slash-kiddies buy Epi LP copies, Gnu-Metal kiddies buy Ibenhads or ESPees, and kiddie fans of whatever that band that has all those songs on the radio buy whatever that guy is paid to play. It's the same reason people who can't play as well as Phil Collen dish out the dough to have his guitar - they feel that connection even if it's only in the logo.

What I do find stale about Jackson imports is the lifeless rosewood they use. Isn't there a dye that will at least make them look like a better quality rosewood and not dehydrated porch planks? The MOTO fins I can overlook as mother of pearl does not have any more tonal quality or mass than plastic, but that sickly, pale, faded brown crap they call rosewood these days should have gone up in a fire long ago.

I do wish they'd replace the SLS import with the JacksonStars NASL body, though. It's cut over the neck pickup instead of directly between them, is more visually appealing, and balances better.
And put a fucking Floyd on the damn thing. Enough of this stringthrough/tom shit
