"If you have to ask how much it is, you probably can't afford it" -someone wise

Try and spec out a guitar like this from Suhr or Tom Anderson. Jackson/Charvel is totally within their boundaries charging $2,400 for this guitar. I say this with the assumption it strictly adheres to normal custom shop design and manufacturing principles, which I believe they are still capable.

I will only order one of these if I can get the bits they missed corrected and if I can get a 1 3/4" nut with a true San Dimas profile.

If Tim Wilson and Mike Shannon are managing the manufacturing of these, they will be right. They still have the templates and many of the machines, and even some of the same people to build these guitars. It's not Fender is trying to duplicate them in their shop (yet). It appears apart from some hardware issues that the wood is good. I'd love to play one before ordering. I would be very disappointed if I got one home and my originals blow them away. There is nothing like a 20+ year old broken-in Charvel neck so they already have the cards stacked against them. However, for all the folks who don't want to waste their time with ebay games and constantly trying to find an original, you can get no closer than this. (I hope)

Yes, Lee could make this guitar for maybe $1,000 less but so could you out of Warmouth parts for probably $1,500 less! If Tim and Mike can make the "real thing" with the same processes and quality of what I am used to in a strathead Charvel by God sign me up.

Brian McD, without eyeballing it or playing it you need:

-black phenolic nut
-black output jackplate
-black dots (on maple)
-dump the flat black pickup ring for a gloss one...Wayne uses those flat ones and they look awful (actually, this guitar should have a creme ring in the first place)
-lose the 25th badge (if it must be there, put it on the back of the headstock)
-make sure the 1 3/4" nut is there
-offer the two original neck profiles
-offer custom body wood/graphic options
-offer 21 frets
-offer double creme DiMarzio's as an option
-dump the stainless steel saddles
-make sure that trem has a bigass brass block on it (if it does not already)
-continue the Charvel reissue trend of original Charvel neckplate style with four digit serial number (I have not seen the back)
-market some kind of assurance that Tim and Mike own this from a development standpoint to assuage all the people who own originals

I am sure there is more, those are the biggies.

Here is Fender's chance to do this right and hopefully they just give Tim and Mike the reigns and tell them to pretend it is 1982.

I offer free Charvel reissue consulting services. Just let me know how I can help.

You guys can say what you want about Fender delivering. In fact, that guitar is a Fender Stratocaster with a Charvel logo. To me, a guitar that "screams" needs at least two humbuckers and a Floyd, maybe even neck through body with a graphic for extra moans and groans. Again, that's a Fender Strat custom shop axe. I bet my entire Jackson collection that GMW could build the exact same instrument for more than 1/2 off what Fender wants. MSRP of $4000, sheesh. I play Jacksons anyway, I don't get the Charvel hype. To me, a really nice Charvel is the 750 XL.

Your way off here. My Custom Bigmouth was bought thru a friend of mine and I got a super deal. that guitar was around $3900 msrp and I paid $2050 for her. She is only a single hum also but with a Floyd .... The way your comparing it works out to what we all paid for the Bullseyes

Re: OH MY GODDDD!!!!!!!!!!!

OK, everyone asked for it and Fender delivered. Kudos for that. It looks really nice, fairly true to original design and probably plays great. But $4000 MSRP??? Come on ! It's a USA bolt-on with one pickup and no Floyd. Why does the shape of the headstock add an extra $1500 to the list price? These should be priced about the same as the GuitarXpress Bullseye guitars, maybe a little less since it doesn't have a graphic or 2 pickups.

I guess it's a marketing thing. If people beg enough, Fender will do it if they can hammer you on the price. It will be really interesting to see if this is just a one time series deal or if more come out. I always personally found stratheads interesting only in the fact that people went nuts for them because Daddy(Jackson/AMIC) wouldn't let you have one. Now that stepdaddy is letting you have one it will be interesting to see how many people step up to the plate and empty their checkbooks. While there are some diehard strathead fans here and at Charvel Central, I don't think many other non-diehards will be interested. It will be interesting to watch for sure.

Fender's best bet at this point would be to just let the strathead be a $1000 upcharge option on Custom Shop orders. The diehards would pay.

Re: OH MY GODDDD!!!!!!!!!!!

Actually the best way to make a small fortune is to make both a USA and an import Dinky with a 22 fret Strathead and be done with it. The Puritans wouldn't get their "False God of 1982" but they'd settle for a Charvel-logoed Jackson with a Fender headstock and just whine about it not having "mojo" or "vibe" because the neck profile wasn't spot-on. But they'll whine anyway because it's not 1982, or because it doesn't get that Brown Sound, or that they still can't wank on a one-hum wonder like Ed the V.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Kev beat me to this point Joe, and he's spot on. You had some funny math about custom shop pricing going on and, hence, it didn't support the point.

I am personally not interested in what basically amounts to full custom shop pricing for a "limited edition" with some specs that don't interest me. Nonetheless, I think the guitar is way cool and will be very successful anyway. However, I would guess that it would be more successful if it had been priced about halfway between USA Select and full custom shop pricing.

That said, I'm very willing to pay typical custom shop pricing for a strathead Charvel built to my own custom specs. And I'll make the call ASAP if this is permitted, so if Kev or anyone else hears the good word, please post it here and I'll do the same! I do hope this is the case now and we're not disappointed.

I also hope that, if not already, they make a USA Select-comparable line of pointy and stratheaded Charvels available not too far down the road.

Again, thanks to all at Fender / Jackson / Charvel for bringing back a legend.

Ok, next step, a ltd. Soloist with painted logo, Kahler, toggles, small control cavity, and binding over low-wide frets, and I'm so there, dude!!! Like a "Shannon Soloist Plus."

Since I've never caught "Strathead fever", I can't really comment on this ltd. version. Looks cool enough, I guess, if a bit quaint after all these years.

Re: OH MY GODDDD!!!!!!!!!!!

Well,

The way I'm interpreting the write up this is the "Begining" of the return of USA Charvels like they should be .. or a celebration so to speak. Kinda like Gibson when they did the 25/50 Les Paul as a limited etc .. I'll speculate that we will see more charvels .. I think the reason this guitar is in the price range it is, is simply because it will be a limited comemorative edition. Hence the figured top and board. It would be nice to see a select series Charvel now that it has been proven that Fender is willing to make Charvel fans happy. The other issue I'm seeing is our very own Diablo Motzart will be at NAMM today with 2 san dimas stratheads so fender can try and understand what the mojo is and why we feel those necks are so sweet.

I'm seeing a lot of people taken back about the price on this and Slo100 and I were talking of this just yesterday. How many of you guy's are original Charvel players from 79-86? At daddy's in 1984 a typical Charvel Strat cost $1200 to $1400 and the new Jackson Rhoads were between $800 and $1100. Translate that into today's money and then you understand why Jackson has remained such a value. You really get a lot of bang for the buck in a select series guitar compared to their counterparts of 20 years ago .. IE: Fender,Gibson .. Their prices really didn't increase a whole hell of a lot .. but look at a Les Paul in 1985 vs 2003.. Who can afford em easily?

Ahead to today's price .. Look at the price and time difference ... say $1200 to $2400 over 18 years .. is that increase really a big difference? While I agree with Bret that they have all the original templates in reality in any production enviroment a plan has to be implemented and in the case of newer guitars programs will have to be written to do the necks.. it's not likely they will be hand made like b4 .. Maybe CNC'ed then hand finished is a better guess .. Just like VCR's and DVD's the cost associated is always more at 1st hence and decreases as production rises.

The difference in the Bulleyes were simple .. They while being worked around the old neck shape they still have aspects of them that select guitars do now. The headstock shape and how it is attached.. How many birdseye select series necks have you seen? (Can't count the figured neck in the pc1 it's an artist series) The fact that they don't do V-Trem guitars in select series etc ...

What this means is that give it time and if a regular a production guitar starts then you will see the costs assciated decrease ...... J.M.O but try and enjoy the eye candy while it is here ..

Re: OH MY GODDDD!!!!!!!!!!!

I've already got my hotrodded Strat! It's a 2000 USA Double Fat Hardtail, and I paid under $1,000 for it. It's got two Duncan humbuckers, super five-way switching. Now, if it only had 24 frets! This new Charvel is cool, and it's great Fender/Jackson/Charvel listened to the fans, but I also think it's a little overpriced, plus vintage trems do nothing for me. Still a very cool guitar regardless.
