yes...but i'm not at liberty to discuss it...what i was told is the actual models will play very differently from the one at the show...d.m.

and don't take it to mean that it played bad, cos it was a monster player...just needs "tweaking" on the neck shape...

Thanks!

Anyone know what the body wood is? Alder or poplar, I would guess? And what's up with the straight trem bar? I've never played a bar like that... seems a little strange compared to a bent bar.

I'm not even remotely a Charvel enthusiast and couldn't care less about San Dimas stratheads etc. etc. but this guitar seems to be lacking a little in mojo it seems to me. It just doesn't look right (not "hot rod" enough), and i think it would be better off with more pickups, knobs etc. so it would be a bit more functional, even though it obviously is intended as a collectors piece. Oh well, better they did something at all, rather than nothing, the gold appointments are a nice touch, and it is a very cool show of good faith on Fenders part to have listened like this. I'm impressed with how the Jackson/Charvel aquisition has been handled. Pricewise, every other company in the universe also charges more for limited editions so nothing strange there.

Guys, let's not forget that there are many on this Forum who are not into the "Strathead" thing. Many of us were NOT begging for stratheads, where did this myth arise? With over 75 USA Jacksons, it might come as a shock to some here that I have never in my life seen a USA made Charvel in person. Yep, that's right. Never. The only Charvels I have seen are Japanese made. Guys like myself aren't bashing Fender and aren't happy to find the flaws with this 25th model. We're just saying, hey, it's cool, but it ain't us. Like I said way back on page 3, a single hum, vintage trem guitar doesn't do it for me. I'm happy it does for someone else though. But we're not dissin' anyone, ok? I don't even buy new guitars anymore anyway. So, with that, at least understand that not everyone is into it. Give me a dual hum neck through with a Floyd and I'll be quiet...

Yeah, i'm not too into that whole strathead thing either. I always thought it looked kinda ugly. But hey, its vintage, and lots of people like that old school stuff, so to each his own. I definately prefer the reverse Jackson headstock

I wasn't really into Stratheads back then, and not really now. I do have a Jackson strathead, and if they all play like mine (I couldn't imagine one playing better ), then I can see why everyone loves them so much.

While at one time I would agree with Joe on the whole strathead thing, I must admit I'm hooked on them now. I bought two Shannon era Strathead Charvels recently and they KILL my bolt on Jacksons. The 25th Reissue doesn't do it for me personally (I don't like sunburst finishes), but as soon as the HRF comes out, I'm in.

Personally, give me an evil looking neck-thru pointy guitar with 2 hums and a Floyd Rose, something that would scare your mother. That's what does it for me.

As far as stratheads, I WAS(past tense) one who could care less and was of the mindset that "if I want a stinking strat headstock.... I'll buy a Fender". I used to feel that way until I happened across a strathead star that has to be one of my best sounding favorite players. Stratheads just feel different. Stratheads never came with the standard 1 11/16" nut width(someone will probably prove that statement wrong...hahaha) of the pointies and just feel different. Most stratheads have the skinnier 1 5/8" nut and a unique feel. Some have the "EVH neck" 1 3/4" nut width. As someone who grew up playing a Les Paul and USA Deans, all with 1 5/8" nut widths, I really like those skinnier necks up top. I now have 3 strathead Charvels and they feel great in their own way. I still prefer the pointies but the stratheads are neat too in their own way. I'm not a fanatic about them and really don't care for the vintage trem so the 25th Aniv. model really doesn't do a whole lot for me at over 2 grand but hey..... it's cool. Let the fanatics enjoy them.

Greg,

My Blue one in the Gallery is 1 11/16. Funny Bret and I were just discussing this yesterday .. I told him I had a 1 5/8 serialized charvel strathead and he thought they were all 1 3/4 ...

i think the strathead is a cool looking guitar.
i have had a couple of the san dimas reissues and thought they were pretty good...however, the $2400 is a bit high for what you are getting.

for that price, i can get a prs with birds and 10 top which holds its value very well or get custom built guitars from driskill, thorn or other luithers.

i don't understand why the price for a strathead is so high... its a bolt on guitar with a flat top body, a bridseye fender neck, a brass bridge, and 1 pickup. i understand that its usa made and all, but i think they would get less complaints and more sales if the price was under $2000

with all that said, i think fender is heading in the right direction in please all of us charvel/jackson fans. i don't mind them making money off of me, but just don't take an arm and a leg...

A lot of the detractors of this limited edition strathead Charvel re-ish are losing sight of some main points here...

1. There are only going to be orders taken for this guitar for 3 months. That means, there could end up being less than 20 of these in existence.

2. By way of comparison, the LTD Rhoads was limited to 200 pieces, and look what they go for. Sure, it was a replica of Randy's guitar, and a totally different thing, but it's all about supply and demand.

3. "USA Charvel Stratheads" are back! Isn't that a good enough omen of things to come by itself? For me it is - knowing that the possibility exists of getting one made the way you want is a very good thing, indeed...

Price points and options aside, this is the best news we have had post-FMIC buyout yet. Let's try to be positive about this, shall we? No one said you HAD to buy THIS one...

• Re: OH MY GODDDD!!!!!!!!!!!

The vast majority of Charvel Strathead necks are 1 3/4" at the nut. Every single one of my original stratheads are 1 3/4". I can't play those skinny necks so for me that is a good thing! Some other collectors have some that are 1 5/8" so I know there is a scattering of them. If the reissue has a 1 5/8" nut I'll have to bow out or wait until I can order one to my specs. The 1 11/16" is even rarer than the 1 5/8" from the guitars I have seen and know about. 1 5/8 is so, dare I say it, "Fendery" to me. I always felt 1 3/4" was a distinguishing feature on Charvels with a wide flat fast fretboard being natural on them.

It appears many people are reading the commentary on the 25th as disparagement and that was (at least with me) not the intent. This guitar is obviously being pointed towards people like me who appreciate the originals. I don't think they ever expected it to go over well with the Soloist/neckthrough/modern guitar crowd. This is a retro-guitar for sure. I happen to like it! However, for me to buy one, it will have to have all the right specs and be on par with my original Strathead Charvels. If it is not, or there is a key feature missing then it won't get played (from a player standpoint) or appreciated (from a collector standpoint), therefore what is the point? There is none, literally.

The point of this forum is to discuss what we like and dislike about all things Charvel and Jackson. I don't see how pointing out things strathead fans like and dislike about the 25th Anniv guitar is a bad thing. At the very least it is informative.

If they get it right, I'll buy one. If they don't I won't. I love the way that guitar looks and I love the fact Fender allowed Jackson Guitars to produce it. Here's to hoping they get all the details accurate.
