  • Just bought mystery USA Jackson. What is this?

Just bought this guitar. At first glance, I thought it was a Charvel model 4 mutt because of the mini switches... but then I noticed the headstock says "Jackson" and "made in USA" plus it has 24 frets not 22. Ontario California neck plate. It has oddly shaped J-200 pickups without raised lettering. Looks like something from around... 1986? What is this thing?

'86 is too early for JT-590. 0016xx USA bolt on is 1992.

          So, 1992 Dinky Custom.

'92 catalogs seem to be all Japanese models. So here's the page in the '93 cat: http://audiozone.dk/guitargallery/?c...1993Page36.jpg

                    Nice grab. JE-1500 perhaps?

My guess would be a JE-1200 since the layout is similar to a Model 4/6.

Not a production model? So this is custom shop/special order?

I still have to figure out what's going on with the wiring. There are actually FIVE pots, two of which are just chillin' inside the control cavity. There IS a circuit-board attached to one pot, maybe a JE-1200 or JE-1500, but it's not wired up. The neck and middle pickups aren't connected and the EMG goes in and out. I would have rewired the whole thing and replaced the pickups anyway, so I don't mind.

Nimitz, GTWGTIS? I have no idea what that means. By the way, I dig the amber burst guitar in your sig. I hope I can score one of those some day too.

That control layout is not that unique, here is a dinky I had from 1991.

I had a 1991 dinky that had the same layout. Three mini switches, & 24 frets. It had a JE-1200 in it, does this one?

Other than the non-raised Jackson logo on the pickups, is seems the same.
